Message from Ms. Lahey
Greetings Hembree Families!
We have completed our second week of school, and students are settling into their routines. During these first several weeks, we focus on collecting beginning-of-year diagnostic data.
This past Tuesday, students completed the i-Ready Reading Diagnostic. Please scroll down to learn how to view your child’s results online. On Tuesday, August 18, students will take the i-Ready Math Diagnostic. Results will become available once your child completes the assessment.
This data helps us plan skills groups and small-group instruction in reading and math. At Hembree, we work hard to ensure that every child receives instruction at the appropriate level.
Homework folders went home on Monday of this week. Hembree is a homework-optional school; however, we highly encourage students to complete their homework to help reinforce skills taught in the classroom. Homework packets should be turned in by Friday. Students who complete their homework will earn Hawks Tickets, which they can use to purchase items from our PBIS carts each month. If you have any questions about homework, please reach out to your child’s teacher.
Thank you for making sure your children arrive at school on time. Prompt arrival truly makes a difference, and we will continue focusing on attendance throughout the year. We have already seen some illnesses spread. Please make every effort to send your child to school regularly, but keep them home when they are experiencing symptoms of illness.
If you missed last week’s curriculum videos, they will remain available in our newsletter throughout August.
I look forward to getting some rest this weekend. I do not have any plans, and I am grateful for the chance to recharge. I hope you and your family have a wonderful weekend!
Warm Regards,
Nancy Lahey

📚 School Supply Drive Update
Thanks to your donations to our School Supply Drive, PTA has been working hard to make sure our teacher workroom (and the classrooms) are stocked with the supplies our teachers need throughout the school year.
We started with a large order of headphones, which arrived Monday—just in time for i-Ready assessments on Tuesday 🎧
This is just the beginning. We’ll continue using School Supply Drive funds to replenish supplies and provide teachers with the everyday materials they need as the year goes on.

Please spend anywhere from 10-20 minutes with your child engaging with them around their day at school and encouraging their social and emotional skills. We’ll also encourage you to practice additional skills inclusive of Math and ELA. Please feel free to reach out to me Lucy Gilbert, Title I Parent Liaison (gilbertl2@fultonschools.org) with any questions. Beanstack Reading App
Have you heard your child mention anything about an app called Beanstack? It was introduced in the Media Center. Beanstack is a digital reading log that students can use to log the number of minutes they are reading. They can earn badges and rewards along the way. If your child is reading at school, home, daycare, etc. they can log their minutes and help us get closer to our goal. The following is a video explaining how to use Beanstack from home. You can always find your child's lunch number/student number in infinite campus or email Mrs. Soberanis: soberanis@fultonschools.org. Happy Reading!

All Stars Wanted
Each week the PE department will choose 4 All Star Athletes (2 students & 2 staff members). If your student enjoys hiking, swimming, baseball, softball, football, biking, etc. Please email a picture to marzetti@fultonschools.org.
Thanks,
Ms. Marzetti
