Happy New Year!
What a year it has been! We hope you had a wonderful and safe Holiday season and we are happy to resume classes, face to face and virtually. Some of the challenges we faced in 2020 are still present today and it's important to remain cognizant of them.
County Judge Lina Hidalgo has reported the highly contagious COVID-19 variant strand, first found in the United Kingdom, is being reported in Harris County and the state of Texas. She said the variant strand is 70% more contagious but not more severe in symptoms. It is important to stay diligent, maintain social distancing, and continue utilizing proper hygiene such as wearing a mask and frequently washing hands. Do not attend school on campus if you are feeling ill. Free COVID testing is available through the county at the M.O. Campbell Educational Center (MOC). Appointments can be made HERE. Drive-thru rapid COVID-19 testing is available for all Aldine ISD students and staff learning and teaching on-campus at the M.B. Sonny Donaldson Child Nutrition Services Building, 1802 Aldine Bender Rd., Houston, TX 77032. Please note that online registration is required. You can access the online form by clicking here.
The events that took place last week at the Capitol were shocking and its images left many of us speechless. It seemed surreal to see mayhem, riots, and horrifying unrest unfold. These events have created confusion, hurt, fear, disappointment, and even anger, no matter your political beliefs. Aldine ISD remains committed to teaching our students to understand the importance of being informed and engaged members of society. The students in our classrooms are our future leaders, and we are responsible for how we shape their hearts and minds. How we treat each other matters. We are committed to creating a culture of belonging for all students and families. The recent events at the U.S. Capitol have shown our country — including our children — that violence and hatred can and do exist in our democracy. We offer the below resources as a way to talk about what is happening in our country — from the most inspiring demonstrations of democracy to the most shameful displays of racism — in hopes that the world’s future leaders will take away lessons on how to build an even brighter future for our communities.

What's going on at Mead
On Thursday, December 17, 2020; Brookside Funeral Home answered the call at Mead Middle School with its first installment of single use plastic gloves to be used by CTE students and staff. Now students will be able to safely discard these gloves after using shared technological devices within the computer labs at the school. Brookside has routinely participated in career days and the Principal’s Community Coffee for the last two years. We thank Brookside for its continued support as an active community business partner as we operate in the NEW NORMAL.
