Principal's Message
Greetings, Patriot Families,
This has been a wonderful week at BMS, full of productivity and strong collaboration across our school community. We completed our 90‑Day LSPI (Local School Plan for Improvement) review and language arts walkthroughs with our Cluster Superintendent, and we look forward to continuing the great work happening in our classrooms each day.
A special shout‑out goes to our 7th grade English Language Arts team for their excellent work and strong instructional practices observed this week.
As we continue to monitor the weather, please stay alert for updates from the district and from our school. We also encourage families to check both school and district social media outlets for important alerts. Students should keep their Chromebooks charged, and in the event of school closings or delays, they should check their teachers’ Google Classroom for assignments. Your child’s teacher may have also sent paper copies home as an additional resource.
We wish all of our families a safe, warm, and restful weekend. Thank you for your continued partnership and for supporting the success of every student at BMS!
With Patriot Pride,
Felecia Jones
Principal
GCPS ParentSquare Message: Monitoring Weather Condiitions
GCPS Monitoring Weather Conditions: Stay Safe and Informed
Gwinnett County Public Schools is closely monitoring weather conditions forecasted for this weekend. The safety of students and staff is our highest priority. Decisions related to inclement weather are guided by district procedures, multiple safety data sources, and Board policy.
As of Thursday, January 22:
- All school events and facility usage for Saturday, January 24, and Sunday, January 25 are cancelled. No changes or cancellations to school or events on Friday, January 23.
- At this time, no changes have been made to the school schedule for Monday, January 26. Decisions will be communicated as early as possible if conditions warrant a change.
If bad weather causes school to be cancelled or dismissed early, public announcements will be made on GCPS TV, on the school system’s website (www.gcpsk12.org), on Facebook and Instagram, through ParentSquare, and via metro-Atlanta news stations. Full-day cancellations usually are announced by 6 a.m., and sooner when possible. Learn more about how the decision is made about school closing.
Do you have the ParentSquare app?
Don't miss out on emergency messages or important alerts! GCPS staff and families have access to the ParentSquare app! Download it and adjust the settings for your use. Please visit the ParentSquare page on the district website to learn more. The app is a great way to stay informed when inclement weather results in changes to the school schedule.

Hunger Hurts Attendance “No One Can Learn or Work on an Empty Stomach”
Many families in our community are facing hunger. Food insecurity affects attendance, focus, and overall well-being. In Georgia, one in seven children experiences food insecurity, which can make it hard to thrive at school or work.
If you are struggling, you are not alone. Asking for help does not make you a bad parent or a bad person. Even families who seem well-off can face challenges. Reaching out for support shows strength and care for your family. Our community is here to help

Berkmar Middle is a Power Down School
One of the integral parts of creating a harmonious and distraction-free learning space is our "Power Down" electronic device (cell phones, airpods, headphones, etc.) policy. We understand the importance of technology and staying connected in our modern world. However, during school hours, the focus should be on learning, collaborating, and being present.
Should there be an emergency or an urgent concern to communicate with your child, please reach out to the school's main office. We will ensure your child receives the message promptly.
