Solar Eclipse
On Monday, some classrooms will be going outside to view the solar eclipse using the glasses the district has provided or ones sent in from home between 2pm and 3pm. If your child's class will be going outside, you will receive an email from the classroom teacher. Your child's participation in this is optional. Please let the classroom teacher know if you do not want your child to go outside.
At school, we will provide students with expectations of when and when not to wear the solar eclipse glasses. Reinforcing the guidelines below at home would be very helpful.
- The solar eclipse can ONLY be viewed when the glasses are on.
- If students wear glasses daily, the solar eclipse glasses should be placed on top of their prescription glasses.
- When students are walking to their buses or walking home, students should not have their glasses on, but rather in their hand.
- Once students are seated on the bus, they should put their glasses on for safety purposes.
Solar Eclipse Early Dismissal or Absence Day
As you know, on Monday, April 8th our area will be in the direct line of a total/partial solar eclipse. As per the latest Superintendent Message (PV Superintendent Message 4/3/24), if you feel more comfortable keeping your child at home for the day or picking them up from school early on this day, please follow the procedures outlined below.
Early Dismissal:
For picking your student up from school early to witness the solar eclipse, please send in a note or an email to our office staff by Monday, April 8 at 10:00 AM to evattendance@pvsd.org and your child’s classroom teacher. Please include your student’s name, date and time of the pick up and the adult who will be picking up your student. *For the Solar Eclipse pick up process, please plan to pick up your child prior to 2:30 PM, as we will need to begin preparing for our regular scheduled dismissal. When picking up your child, please be prepared to present your ID (Driver's License). This is to ensure an efficient pick up procedure process and the safety of our students. Please know we will also facilitate our regular pick-up procedures at the end of the school day.
Absence Day:
If your child will be absent on this day to witness the solar eclipse, please send an email to: evattendance@pvsd.org. This will count as your call-out AND parent excuse. Please indicate in the email the student’s name, date of absence, student’s grade and the reason for the absence.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation with these procedures

Please join me in thanking and celebrating some special people this week. Wednesday was National Paraprofessional Day and Thursday was National School Librarian Day.
The paraprofessionals at Evergreen and throughout PV work tirelessly to support our students, teachers and school community. Their commitment to helping every student thrive is truly admirable and we are all grateful for the positive impact they make every day!
Mrs. Lane's and Mrs. Buffo's passion for instilling a love of literacy and helping students explore and discover new worlds through books is amazing. The welcoming library environment and the gift of learning to love books will benefit students for a lifetime.

2024-25 School Year Parent/Guardian Input
In the final weeks of the school year, Evergreen will begin the scheduling process for the 24-25 school year. We consider class placement to be one of our most important tasks. Each child's academic, social and emotional growth, peer relations, and overall strengths and needs are carefully considered.
Parents and guardians of children entering grades one through five are welcome to complete the google form linked below if you have any information you wish to share regarding your child that will be helpful in class placement. This input will be referenced as students are placed in classes for the 24-25 school year.
24-25 Parent/Guardian Input Google Form
The deadline to submit this form is Friday, May 3rd.
Please submit a form for each child.
While we carefully consider the type of teaching style and qualities of an educator you think will best serve your child, I respectfully ask that you refrain from making specific teacher requests.
Thank you for your support in this process.
2024 Spring PSSA: Information for Grades 3-5
Students in grades three, four, and five in our elementary schools will be participating in the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) during late April and early May. The PSSA (Pennsylvania System of School Assessment) is made up of three separate tests that assess to what degree our students have become proficient in English Language Arts (reading and writing), Mathematics, and Science.
- Grades 3-5 ELA: April 22, 24, 26, 2024
- Grades 3-5 Math: April 29 & 30, 2024
- Grade 4 Science: May 1 & 2, 2024
- Grades 3-5 Make-up Assessments: Ongoing--must be completed by May 10, 2024
The PSSA is an example of assessments that provide achievement and growth data that assist schools in developing educational plans in support of successful school experiences for students. The tests will be scored by the State and results are expected to be returned to the school district during the summer. Parent reports, which identify the results for your child and how to assist him/her in improving, are expected to be available in the fall of the upcoming school year. We ask that during this assessment period, you encourage your child to do his/her best and to be sure he/she takes time to obtain a good night’s sleep and to eat a nourishing breakfast. The PSSA Parent FAQs (Spanish), the Keystone Parent FAQ’s, and Electronic Device Letter serve to address questions you may have, however, do not hesitate to contact Sharon Franciosa if you have additional ones.
Spring Review & Practice of Safety Protocols
Ensuring the safety for our students, staff, and visitors is a top priority.
It is important that students learn how to be safe. During April and May classrooms will review our various safety protocols. We will also practice the different Standard Response Protocols including the Hold, Secure, Shelter, Lockdown, and Evacuate safety drills. Student friendly and age-appropriate language is used.
For more information about our emergency preparedness, please visit https://iloveuguys.org/The-Standard-Response-Protocol.html
Reminder: Physical Exams for 5th Grade Students Entering Middle School
Just a reminder!! PA state law requires a medical examination for all students in sixth grade. It is recommended that this examination be performed by your family physician since he/she can best evaluate your child’s health and update immunizations. An examination completed on or after July 1, 2022 (up to one year prior to the student’s entry into sixth grade) will suffice. The physical exam report (distributed to all 5th-grade students ) is to be returned to your child’s school nurse by the first week of the 2023-2024 school year.
It is a good idea to make a copy for your records.
Please note: The PA Department of Health immunization recommendations for this age group include 1 dose of tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis (Tdap), and 1 dose of meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV). These vaccines will be required for entrance into 7th grade unless a letter of exemption is on file.
Thank you!
