The Paw Print
Burke County Public Schools - Home of the Bears
Welcome back from fall break! This week's Paw Print is being sent in Jada's favorite month, October! So it HAS to be super spooky, of course. This is the creepiest background we could find so we hope you guys are scared!
While there are a lot of scary things in the month of October, the SCARIEST thing that could happen is our Bears not performing their best in school! So we continue to encourage all of our students to stay on task and try their best, despite having to wake up from a four-day long hibernation! Stay #BearBuilt!
The Paw Print can be viewed every 2nd and 4th Wednesday. The newsletter features sports updates, events in the community, and fun activities for the family... so stay tuned!

OUR NUMBERS CONTINUE TO DROP!
Each Monday, we provide a report disclosing the number of positive COVID-19 cases within our school system. This report can be easily located on the homepage of our district website, www.burkeschools.org, or by clicking on the image above.
The Delta Variant is continuously on the rise so we continue to require our students and staff to wear their masks in and out of the building. Vaccines are the most efficient way to keep our community safe.
National Day Calendar
October 13 commemorates National Train Your Brain Day, National Yorkshire Pudding Day, National Bring Your Teddy Bear to Work/School Day, National Stop Bullying Day, National Fossil Day, and National Take Your Parents to Lunch Day. Burke County families can celebrate these fantastic holidays by making Yorkshire pudding with your non dominant hand (which strengthens both hemispheres of your brain) to share with their classmates or colleagues that have all brought their Teddy Bear to their respective place of work where the boss or teacher gives a mini lesson on fossils and, finally, at lunch break, children, parents, grand parents, great grand parents, and great great grandparents go out to their favorite restaurant to bond and recognize the national holiday. While at lunch, they may discuss the appreciation they have for every person despite their differences because they strive to stop bullying!
Word of the Day
We challenge you all to use this word as many times as you can this week, extra points if you use it in the right context, EVEN MORE points if you have to explain to somebody what it means!

Gravel cycling enthusiasts will be coming from as far away as Nebraska and Iowa to compete along the gravel and dirt roads in Burke County. The Chamber is looking forward to welcoming approximately 300 participants who will travel here for the BIRD DOG 100 which is being hosted by Cycling Quests. The first annual event is scheduled for Saturday, November 6th and guests will be here for the majority of the weekend.
Chamber to Relocate Office
The Burke County Chamber of Commerce Office will soon have a new home and it will be located right inside the front doors of the Burke County Historic Courthouse. We are excited about the central location on Liberty Street and look forward to utilizing the large foyer as a showcase for our community. We expect to use this space to welcome large numbers of newcomers and visitors to our area throughout the year. We will be offering chamber members the opportunity to put brochures or business cards in the lobby to promote your business or organization. Plans are to move in the last week in October and officially open our doors on Monday, November 1st.

Blackboard - notifications
The Blackboard mass notification system is useful to BCPS families and our faculty/staff because of its ability to deliver district-level and school-specific notifications.
The school system and schools use your student's information in Power School to send email, phone calls, text messages, and emergency notifications to families.
