Flood resources: Where to find emergency shelter, sandbags, storage

As the county remains under flood warnings due to record-breaking river flows, cities are offering resources for those affected.

EVERETT — As an atmospheric river causes record-breaking flooding across Snohomish County, resources are available for those affected by flood damage.

Free storage available

🍎 Fruit and Vegetable Prescriptions! 🥦

FROM THE SITE: https://doh.wa.gov/public-health-provider-resources/public-health-system-resources-and-services/funding/fruit-and-vegetable-incentives-program/fruit-and-vegetable-prescription-program

The Washington State Department of Health’s Fruit and Vegetable Prescription (FV Rx) Program works with health care centers in Washington to prescribe fruits and vegetables to patients who are food insecure. Patients receive between $250-$500 in paper vouchers over six months that are redeemable at Safeway stores* for fresh, frozen, and canned items without added salt, sugar, or fat.

In 2024, FV Rx health care partners will distribute $1.6 million in fruit and vegetable prescriptions across the state, which will serve over 6,000 households.

*In 2025, the program will sunset the paper voucher system and implement an electronic card-based solution utilizing eWIC technology. This will increase shopper choice in retail locations, provide a more streamlined solution for shoppers, healthcare, and retail partners, while allowing for expansion to areas in the state that are not currently served by a Safeway store.

“The program is a great opportunity for me to eat fresh fruit and veggies, it was absolutely a blessing, they are great. It really helps to ensure that I can choose the healthier food. Otherwise, I cannot.” —Patient

“I’ve had older adults come up to me and say, “Thank you so much for providing the [Fruit and Vegetable Rx], I’ve always loved eating berries but they’re so expensive, but now that gets to be my treat at night. I haven’t had berries in 20 years because I couldn’t afford them.” —Health care provider

The Seattle Children’s Mental Health Program

The Seattle Children’s Mental Health Program connects children, teens, and families with evidence-supported outpatient mental health services in their community. This free, telephone-based referral service is funded by Washington Healthcare Authority and operated by Seattle Children’s. The Mental Health Referral Service will provide thorough mental health referrals for children and teens 17 and younger from across Washington.

How does it work? Families can call 833-303-5437 or submit an online request form. We will schedule a telephone intake with a Family Advocate Case Manager, who will ask for the patient’s information, including their mental health needs, location, and health insurance plan. After provider matches are found, the Case Manager will call and email the family to access providers or agencies in real-time. The same Case Manager will follow up with the family after a few weeks to ensure an appointment was made, provide any additional resources, and discuss any barriers there may have been. Student & Family Support Advocate

Cascade High School

srobinson@everettsd.org

What Does a Student Support Advocate (SSA) Do? What Does a Student Support Advocate (SSA) Do?

Some of the things I do has a SSA at Cascade HS are:

  • SSA’s help to connect students and families to community resources such as (but not limited to): mental health providers (therapists), food assistance, housing assistance, clothing assistance, basic needs assistance, financial assistance, backpacks, transportation assistance, etc.…
  • SSA’s offer a listening ear to students that need support during the school day.
  • SSA’s work with students and their families that have housing insecurity or that are homeless (KIT). SSAs are the building KIT and Foster Care point person.
  • SSA’s work with students that have attendance and tardy concerns to help reduce the number of absences/tardies and work to decrease or eliminate barriers that are leading to attendance/tardy problems.
  • SSA’s assist with de-escalation/resets, conflict resolution/restorative meeting/mediation and provide a safe place to calm down during the school day.
  • SSA’s assist with Tier II and Tier III interventions for our students.
  • Maintain a FREE clothing and hygiene closet. Let your student know they can see me in the counseling office, or if you know they would be too shy to see me out themselves, send me an email and I'll reach out to them.

Thank you!
