ELIZABETH HIGH SCHOOL CNA PROGRAM GIVES STUDENTS REAL WORLD EXPERIENCE
Hands on experience in nursing!
The EHS CNA program gives EHS juniors and seniors a real world experience in healthcare. The program is run by Keri Friesenegger, a registered nurse with 36 years of nursing experience and has a background in long-term care.
Many of the students who are part of the program have an interest in nursing, pre-med, respiratory therapy and other areas of the healthcare industry. The students take part in lab time, clinical time and theory.
They start in the classroom and then there are two clinical days where they do hands on care for residents in a long-term care facility.
This program is managed by the state and if the students do well, they will get a recommendation by the state for certification testing. Overall, the program gets them read to take state certification testing. Once they pass that, they will then become certified nurse aides.
Frisenegger says there are two valuable parts to the program. One part is that for students who are interested in healthcare, it gives them an entry level hands on experience with it. The other part is for students who are still exploring whether they would be interested in the field. It allows them to decide whether it is the right path for them without parents having to pay pre-med tuition expenses at the college level.
Interested in the program? EHS sophomores are encouraged to talk to their school counselor to express their interest. It is first come, first serve and the first spots are given to EHS seniors.
SPREADING GOOD IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Love was in the air at Singing Hills Elementary during the Valentines week!
First grade teacher Miss Lagomasino announced that to spread some love into the neighboring community of Parker, they wanted to make Valentine bags and cards for the senior residents of MorningStar of Parker. The whole school, including staff, worked hard making cute valentine cards all week. During the week, Miss Lagomasino’s first grade class then collected and stuffed 65 decorated bags.
On Friday, Valentines Day, Singing Hills Principal Mrs. Sorg came down to the classroom to pick up bags to deliver them to MorningStar of Parker’s seniors. A few of the students were chosen to help Mrs. Sorg take the bags down to the lobby.
We truly hope they loved their gifts and the students got a chance to spread love into a neighboring community!

EHS STUDENT BRAYLON TWISS RECIEVES AWARDS THROUGH DENTAL PROGRAM
EHS student Braylon Twiss is on his way to HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) Nationals!
Braylon has been doing half days at Pickens Tech this school year. He earned his way to compete at the HOSA state leadership conference this week through the Pickens Tech Dental Program he is enrolled in. He found out that not only did he place in two of the events, but is the only first year dental student that earned a trip to the conference and the only dental student to place in two events.
He was awarded bronze in "Dental Terminology" as an individual and another bronze award for "CPR/First Aid" with a partner. Best of all, by earning those two awards, he secured a ticket to Nashville to compete in Nationals this Summer!
Congratulations to Braylon!
EHS STUDENTS BEN HICKS AND MIKINLEY WAY FEATURED ON GOOD DAY COLORADO
TWO GIFTED AND TALENTED HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS MAKE TRIP TO STATE CAPITOL
It’s that time again for our annual Legislative Day at the Capitol!
EHS students Calla Crookshanks and Sawyer Lovato had the unique and informative opportunity to spend a day at the Capitol shadowing a Colorado legislator on the Senate or House floor, attending committee meetings and had lunch with them and their aide(s).
This event is always amazing and impactful!
Our Legislative Committee works hard to create a one of a kind experience for 9th-12th grade students who are passionate about issues facing their community, county, and our state and to experience the legislative process firsthand.
There are basically three components to this day:
1. The student’s involvement shadowing a legislator.
2. Q&A with various legislators from both sides of the aisle.
3. The day ending with a closing Keynote speaker.

EHS Parents Keep An Eye Out For Homeroom Handout on Friday February 21st
Attention EHS parents:
Please keep an eye out for a Student Data Consent Form that will be brought to you titled "SAT Suite of Assessments and College and Career Planning Tools". The forms only go to the sophomores and juniors. If your student is interested in answering the questions connected to the serves being offered, they will need you to sign it.
The students are being asked to read through the flyer, which lets them know about some of the services that the College Board provides.
The signed form is due back by Friday, February 28th, but if you bring it in earlier that is fine too. Students can bring back the signed form, or parents can drop it off at the main office.

INDEPENDENT CLASSICAL ACADEMY COMING TO ESD IN THE FALL 2025
THERE IS A NEW CLASSICAL CHARTER SCHOOL COMING TO ELIZABETH THIS
FALL! Independence Classical Academy (ICA), a new elementary classical
charter school, is coming to Elizabeth August 2025.
What sets Independence Classical Academy (ICA) apart from the other schools in the area is that it offers a classical education, which is grounded in the belief that education should cultivate wisdom as well as virtue.
Grammar, logic, and rhetoric provide the foundational framework through which students acquire knowledge, develop critical thinking, and master oral and written communication skills. In addition to providing intellectual rigor, foundation stones (virtues) are taught that instill a sense of moral responsibility. Through the Core Knowledge Curriculum which includes history, literature, science and art, students are reconnected with the wisdom of the past, preparing them to engage meaningfully with the challenges of the present, envision a better future, and develop a capacity to know the good, the true, and the beautiful.
With regards to location, for the first year (2025-2026), the plan is to hold classes in the Frontier School building on Banner Street in the town of Elizabeth while the new building is being built. Then, for the second year (2026-2027), the plan is to move into the new school building which will be located near the corner of CR 158 and Delbert Road in the new Independence Neighborhood. For students living in-district, busing will be provided by the Elizabeth School District starting in the fall of 2025 and will continue after the move into the new building.
To find out more and enroll your child, please visit www.independenceclassical.org.
