BES Parent Weekly Email

From the Principal
We have had a fun and exciting week - School Improvement Council meeting, Fun Run, Heritage Day, and a free snow cone to every student in the school!
Boosterthon - Thank you for your support with Boosterthon! We exceeded our school goal by raising $9,273. This means, every student who had any amount donated will be able to participate in duct taping me to the wall next Thursday!
Mark your calendars for our Spooktacular Steam Night on October 23 from 4:30-6:00pm! We will also be holding a Title I Informational Meeting from 4:15-4:30pm this day.
Have a great weekend!

Homework
For the second nine weeks, all of our grade levels will be sending homework home. Teachers will check it, but students will not be punished for not completing their homework. They will receive a dojo point or a piece of candy for reward.
Goals of Homework
- Practice/Repetition of already taught skills.
- Increase parent participation in student learning.
- Teach responsibility to our students for turning in assignments.
Tips
- Typically, the teachers will give the homework at the beginning of the week and it will be due on Friday.
- Teachers will post a picture or video of the completed homework sheet (when possible) on Dojo so that parents can feel confident helping their child.
- If you have specific questions, feel free to reach out to your child's teacher.

What Are Your Child's Grades?
Did you know that you are able to see your child's grades as soon as it is entered into the gradebook by the teacher? It is so important that you are able to see this along the way in order for your child to succeed. Download the PowerSchool App today to receive grade notifications!
Here are the steps to get signed back up in case you got logged out.
- Parents who've created an account, but unable to login should contact the PowerSchool Helpdesk. Provide your name, your child's name, and a contact phone number where you can be reached when emailing.
School Fees
If you have not paid your school fees, please go to myschoolbucks.com to take care of that. The charge is $20. Students will not be allowed to go on their Fall Field Trip without these fees being paid. If you have any questions, feel free to call Mrs. KB at our front office.
Paint the Rock
PTO wants to invite you to "Paint the Rock" for your child's special occasions (birthday, sports/dance tournament, etc.) The cost is $20 per day. All the details and to register are in the link. Reserve your date so that it does not get filled up!

Attendance Reminders
Tardy - To be considered on time, the child must be sitting in their classroom at 7:45am. At 7:45am, our front door locks. The parent/guardian/driver will be expected to park their car and sign their child in at this point. Officer Hodges, our School Resource Officer, will be there to remind whoever is dropping off your child. Our instruction begins at 7:45am, so being late for school results in loss of instruction.
Early Dismissal - Students will not be allowed to be dismissed between 2:00-2:30pm for Early Dismissal. Please plan to pick your child up before then, if you have a doctor's appointment. Repeated Early Dismissals could result in an Attendance Plan.
Absences - It is imperative that your child is at school. We have a new system, and will be monitoring attendance very closely. You are allowed to turn in up to 5 Parent Notes to cover an unexcused absence. An example of a Parent Note would be a low grade fever, throwing up, etc. If you take your child to the doctor, please be sure to turn in the medical note. A student is considered truant with 3 consecutive absences or 5 unlawful absences. At this point, an Attendance Meeting will be scheduled with the Parent/Guardian and administration to create an Attendance Plan. Continued truancy will result in turning the plan over to the Anderson County Board.
