Exciting news from our Building Leadership Team meeting aimed at improving attendance among our EMS students. We're thrilled to announce a new initiative that involves a contest working with our building partner Sparkwheel, featuring enticing prizes like a pizza party and a grand prize of a new hoverboard. This initiative encourages each student to set a personal attendance goal for the nine weeks, whether it is reducing absences, eliminating tardies, or achieving perfect attendance.
We understand that unforeseen circumstances, braces, student illness, may affect perfect attendance, and we are committed to helping students set realistic and attainable goals. The discussion also touched on the importance of consistent attendance at both the individual and class levels, but also setting the building-wide attendance goal to enhance our school's overall attendance at 95%.
Attendance is crucial for academic success, as regular participation in class ensures that students receive the full benefit of our educational programs. It is not just about meeting goals; it's about promoting a culture of engagement and commitment to learning. We believe that by working together, we can create an environment where every student feels motivated to attend regularly and actively participate in their education.
We invite you to join us in supporting your child's attendance goals for the upcoming nine weeks. Your involvement plays a key role in the success of initiatives like these. Let's work together to make this effort a success and reinforce the importance of attendance in shaping a bright future for our students.
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Mr. Simmons

Counselor Corner
Peer Mediation
Peer mediation is a new program to El Dorado Middle School this year. Peer mediation is a five step process that involves a little bit of training for students selected for the program. Peer mediators are trained on active listening, empathy, and leadership skills. They use these skills to get both parties to agree to mediate, listen to both stories, stay impartial, develop win-win solutions for both parties, and come to an agreement. Peer mediation programs are beneficial for our students because: students learn problem-solving skills, itβs less intimidating than disciplinary actions, encourages students to act more as leaders, and teaches them soft skills like conflict resolution and teamwork. If students need peer mediation, they can email Mr. Jackson at trjackson@usd490.org or fill out the Counselor Pass.
