Happy Wednesday Cherrydale Families!

Next week, October 19–23, is Digital Citizenship Week, which coincides with our Fall Conference Week! Digital citizenship is about learning how to use technology safely, responsibly, and respectfully. As our students continue to learn and explore in an increasingly digital world, it’s important that they develop healthy habits and understand how to stay safe online.

At school, we’ll focus on topics such as balancing screen time, protecting personal information, making safe choices online, and treating others with kindness and respect in digital spaces. Families play an important role in helping children build these skills, too! We encourage you to continue the conversation at home by talking about your family’s technology habits, what information should stay private, and what your child should do if something online makes them feel uncomfortable.

Looking for ways to get started? Common Sense Media’s Family Resources offers helpful tips, activities, and conversation starters for families to explore together.

Thank you for partnering with us to help our Cheetahs become safe, responsible, and thoughtful digital citizens!

Warm Regards,

Principal Firth

Make-Up pictures may be taken for 3 reasons:

• Your student missed the previous school Picture Day.

• You would like to purchase school pictures, but would prefer a new pose.

• You would like a different picture in the yearbook, if applicable.

It’s completely FREE to have your child photographed again.

After Picture Day, you’ll receive an email link to view your child’s new pictures along with their previous pictures.

Lost and Found

During conferences, our Lost and Found items will be laid out in the hallway for families to look through. Please take a moment to check for any missing jackets, water bottles, lunch boxes, or other belongings.

Tip: Labeling your child's belongings helps us return items to their rightful owner.

Ukulele Club will be taking a break during conference week and will resume the week of October 23rd

A note from the Highly Capable Program teacher, Mrs. Hannah Engstrom:

Each year we screen all second grade students for eligibility in the district’s Highly Capable Program. This year’s screening occurred with the iReady Fall Inform tests. These tools are the first step in the screening process for the program. If a child has met the criteria for additional testing, a message was sent via Parent Square to their family This testing will occur during conference week, October 19-23.

If you are the parent/guardian of a second grade student and do not receive this Parent Square message, you are welcome to apply for the Highly Capable Program in the Spring. If you have any questions about the program feel free to contact me via Parent Square or email at hengstrom@steilacoom.k12.wa.us.
