Robert Down Principal's Update
May 14, 2026
Principal's Message
Dear Robert H. Down School Community,
As we approach the final two weeks of the school year, I want to encourage our students to finish strong! Our hallways are buzzing with excitement as we prepare for a whirlwind of field trips, celebrations, and special events. Just today, our 5th grade did their Annual Egg Drop experiment, one of our Kindergarten classes took the MST bus on a field trip to Trader Joe’s, and our Heritage Club performed a fun puppet show! Our students and staff have worked incredibly hard this year, and I am immensely proud of the growth we’ve achieved together.
We Value Your Voice We are always looking for ways to improve. Please take a moment to share what went well this year and where we can grow by completing our survey.
🎉 Celebrating Mrs. Anne Hober
On Thursday, May 7, our District hosted a beautiful Retirement Recognition ceremony. Among the honorees was our very own 5th-grade teacher, Mrs. Anne Hober.
Anne is known for her deep care for students, her "40-book challenge," and her reign as our "Yearbook Queen." Her creativity has graced years of 5th-grade t-shirts, and her dedication to students with special needs has left a lasting impact. Her smile and laugh will be dearly missed. Please join me in wishing Mrs. Hober the very best in her retirement!
🎨 A Masterpiece in Progress: Schoolwide Art Mural
A huge thank you to parent Mrs. Jordana Scheer and local artist Mrs. Kristy Chettle! They are working with every student from TK through 5th grade to create a stunning mural for our entrance. This is a true community effort, and we can’t wait to unveil the finished work.
🧤 Lost and Found: Last Call!
Our Lost and Found is currently overflowing. Please stop by to claim any jackets, lunchboxes, or water bottles. Any remaining items will be donated to local charity on the last day of school.

Birthday Book Club
This notice is to tell you about our voluntary program designed to build the RHD library and foster your child’s love of reading.
Here is how it works: To join the Robert H. Down Birthday Book Club fill out the information below (scroll way down to the bottom of this message to print the Birthday Book forms) and deposit it in the Drop Box at school along with a check for $20.00 (please make the check payable to the P.G.U.S.D. and write R.H.D. Birthday Book on the memo line).
When your child’s birthday month comes around Ms. Scanlon will present a new book in honor of your child’s birthday. Your child will be the first one to check out and read the book that has been donated to the library to celebrate their birthday. A bookplate with your child’s name will be affixed to the inside cover for all future readers to appreciate.
