GVS information...
Thank you to the adults that joined me for one of our GVS information nights. If you were not able to attend, please find the slide presentation attached below. It is mostly some highlights from the family handbook that answer some of the most frequently asked questions asked to me last year.
The family handbook is linked at the bottom of the newsletter.
One important slide from the presentation: Car Pick-Up and Drop-Off
School starts at 8:30!
We love every minute with our GVS students!
Arrivals after 8:30 are marked tardy.
Musical Group Sign Ups
Sign ups for all musical groups are now open! We're offering Band, Jazz Band, Chorus, Guitar, Bell Choir, and Strings. The start date for all lessons and rehearsals is the week of September 18. The link to the sign up can be found here, or on the music page at gvshawks.org music page. Please email Mr. Hoefs at choefs@gvshawks.org if you have any questions!
Grade 4
Students in grade 4 work together to build a puzzle and then use the experience to create norms as guidelines for working in their groups this year.
The Wachsmans showed teamwork during the "Help Harry" project, a hands-on STEAM and teamwork activity where students build a safe, elevated perch for a small pom-pom ("Harry") using limited materials, such as pipe cleaners, aluminum foil, tape, and a muffin tin liner. The activity emphasizes the engineering design process - encouraging planning, building, testing, and revising while fostering collaboration and problem-solving skills!
Our First Fire Drill
We had our first fire drill today!
I was super impressed with how everyone walked safely, stayed quiet, and listened for directions!
Great job GVS!!

A message from our School Nurse, Mrs. Carey:
Welcome back to School!
I hope you all have had a wonderful summer break!
At the beginning of the school year I like to remind parents of a few things for the upcoming year.
If you are new to the school, please remember to provide immunization records and a physical. These should be current, within the last 6 months, so that I don’t have to keep reminding you to provide updated ones.
SNAP is my medical records program that transfers with your child to middle and high school. This is where I keep a copy of their physical, immunizations, etc. At the beginning of every new school year, parents are asked to go into SNAP and update their students' over-the-counter permissions. I will not be able to help your child with minor issues, such as headaches and bug bites, without this consent. Please be sure to look it over and approve what you are comfortable with giving consent to.
New parents/guardians to GVS-> you should have received an email on the 26th welcoming you. Please use this email to begin using SNAP.
If your child has a chronic illness, please provide the health office with an action plan signed by their specialist(s). Please also remember to provide any medications and supplies needed to help me care for your child.
If your child needs daily medications, please provide the medication in the original prescribed bottle, hand delivered to me by an adult. Unfortunately, no matter how responsible your child may be, we have to be sure to keep other students safe!
If your child has a tendency to have bathroom accidents, please be sure to send in extra clothes for them to change into. Also, please be mindful of the weather! Students participate in outdoor activities, so please make sure they are dressed appropriately for the weather.
Finally, if your child is sick, please keep them home! I realize that it is a huge inconvenience, but children love to share their germs! We do our best to teach them to wash their hands and cover their mouths when they cough and sneeze (elbow salute). However, we have to remember that COVID-19 is still lingering around. A temperature of 100.5 and over is considered a fever, unless of course they are symptomatic and their temp is lower. If your child is symptomatic, such as a runny nose, sneezing, coughing, diarrhea or vomiting, please consult with me before sending them in.
As always, please do not hesitate to contact me!
Thank you!

Policy Highlight
JLF
Did you know that New Hampshire is a "Universal Mandated Reporting State"?
Under NH law, ALL adults are required to report suspected child abuse and/or neglect immediately to the Division for Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF). You do not need proof of abuse/neglect to make a report.
To make a report to DCYF, call 1-800-894-5533 (24/7). For immediate safety concerns, dial 911.
Please find SAU 75 Policy JLF linked below.
Under New Hampshire law (RSA 169-C:29), every person who has “reason to suspect” that a child has been abused or neglected is required to report that suspicion to DCYF (Division of Children, Youth and Families of the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services) or directly to the police. Under RSA 169-C:30, the initial report “shall be made immediately via telephone or otherwise.”
Please note that GVS staff are not acting as investigators. If there is suspicion, including if a child makes a comment that implies abuse, GVS staff are required by law to file a report with DCYF.

We did it—first week of the new school year is in the books! A huge thank you to our students, families, and staff for making the transition back a smooth one. We hope everyone enjoys the upcoming Labor Day holiday and a well-deserved long weekend.
Starting this year, the GPTG Newsletter will be moving to monthly paper updates —so be sure to check your child’s C folders for the latest info. Stay tuned for announcements about upcoming assemblies, fundraisers, and community events. We’re excited for another great year together!
