Week 38

Art Fest
Our Art Fest was a tremendous success, showcasing the incredible musical and artistic talents of our students and staff. From inspiring performances to creative displays, the event highlighted the passion, dedication, and creativity within our school community. Thank you to everyone who participated and supported this memorable celebration of the arts. Enjoy the performances below!
Thank you again to our Neighborhood Teachers for taking the lead and for the entire student body and staff to jump right in.
Kindergarten iReady EOY
K- EOY Reading
As we wrap up an incredible year in kindergarten, we want to celebrate the tremendous growth our students have made. Our kindergarten teachers work hard every day not only to support students' social-emotional development, but also to build the strong academic foundation that will support their success for years to come.
Our end of year iReady Reading data highlights just how much progress our students have achieved. At the beginning of the year, only 4 students were approaching grade-level expectations. By the end of the year, 23 students were performing at or above grade level in reading.
In addition, the number of students performing one grade level below expectations decreased from 20 students to just 1 student. These results reflect the dedication of our teachers, the hard work of our students, and the partnership of our families. We are incredibly proud of this growth and excited to see our students continue to thrive as they move on to first grade!
K- EOY Math
We saw equally impressive growth in mathematics. At the beginning of the year, only 5 students were performing at or above grade level. By the end of the year, that number had grown to 21 students meeting or exceeding grade-level expectations.
Additionally, the number of students performing one grade level below expectations decreased from 19 students to just 4 students. These remarkable gains demonstrate the strong foundation our kindergarten teachers have built in both literacy and mathematics. Through engaging instruction, targeted support, and high expectations, our students have developed the skills and confidence needed for continued success. We are incredibly proud of their hard work and growth throughout the year. Keep practicing over the summer break so we do not see the consequences of the "Summer Slide" where students come back and have forgotten much of what they've learned.
First Grade iReady EOY
1st- EOY Reading
Equally impressive, our first grade students made tremendous growth in reading. At the beginning of the year, 31 students were performing one to two grade levels below expectations. Based on last week's data, 29 students are now performing at or above grade level. The exact inverse we absolutely love!
1st- EOY Math
At the beginning of the year, 35 students were performing one to two grade levels below expectations in math. By the end of the year, 28 students were performing at or above grade level!
Take a look at the data bars below. The top bar shows our current results, while the bottom bar shows data from the beginning of the year. You can see that the red section has been completely eliminated, and the yellow section has decreased tremendously, demonstrating the incredible growth our students have made throughout the year.
2nd Grade iReady EOY
2nd- EOY Reading
The final grade level I would like to highlight this week is our second grade class. We are proud to share that 36 of our 48 second grade students are now performing at or above grade level.
While 12 students may still need some additional support, we have already begun planning and collaborating to ensure they receive the resources and interventions they need as they transition to third grade.
Take a look at where we started compared to where we are now. The growth our students have made is truly remarkable and is a testament to the hard work of our students, teachers, and families. What wonderful teamwork!
2nd- EOY Math
Finally, let's take a look at our second grade math results. We started the year with 48% of our students not meeting grade-level standards. Through hard work and dedication, we reduced that number to 25%, cutting it nearly in half.
While we are proud of this growth, we know there is still work to do. We encourage families to log in to lms.lausd.net and review their child's individual scores. At school, teachers will be updating each student's data portfolio and reviewing progress with them.
If you would like ideas on how to help your child continue growing and fill any learning gaps over the summer, we encourage you to start by reaching out to your child's teacher. We would be happy to partner with you and provide support.
Wilson HS Open House
Saturday, May 30th
Looking for a family event locally? Check out Wilson High School's Open House. It's right up the street from us!
Library Books
All checked-out library books are due by the end of this week. If you have not already done so, please gather any library books you still have and return them to Ms. Jennifer as soon as possible.
Remember, any lost books must be paid for. Unpaid library fines become part of your unresolved obligations with the district, and the district may withhold your high school diploma until those obligations are cleared.
I know senior year seems a long way off, but this does happen. We once had a 12th grade student come in to pay for One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, a book they had lost in 1st grade 11 years earlier, because the district still had it marked as missing and unpaid.
Staff vs 5th Grade
Monday, June 1st
Our 5th grade students will be playing their annual, traditional baseball game versus the undefeated Multnomah Staff. Will this be the year the staff is overthrown? We will be sure to take a lot of photos and videos to share highlights of this school community only event.
Parent Volunteer Breakfast
Tuesday. June 2nd
Calling all of our amazing volunteers! Please join us in the Parent Center from 8:30 am - 9:30 am as we honor YOU, our parents and our volunteers for all the work that you do behind the scenes as quiet warriors to support our school. We will provide the breakfast. You just need to show up. 😀
Track Meet
Wednesday, June 3rd
It's that time again! Come watch our young athletes compete for gold, silver, and bronze medals during our annual Track Meet Competition.
Parents and family members are welcome to attend. We will not have formal seating, but you are welcome to stand behind your student's class.
The Track Meet will begin immediately after BIC and will run from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

National Pollinator Month
National Pollinators Month in June encourages the planting of pollinator gardens of native, non-invasive pollen and nectar-producing plants. When these gardens bloom, they attract bees, birds, bats, and other natural pollinators.
Pollinating creatures make a difference between valuable fruits and vegetables on our tables and going without. As we plant and encourage natural habitats for pollinators, we're putting food on the table and helping the environment, too.
According to the National Wildlife Federation, pollinators are responsible for 1 of every 3 bites we take. That's a lot of pollinating! And many wildflowers provide more than just something pretty to look at. Their root systems prevent erosion and many of them provide flavorful and healthful teas and herbal remedies.
Pollinators such as the monarch butterfly and the honey bee have been in decline. While all the reasons have not been identified, increasing the available habitat does help! Encouraging the growth of natural habitats also attract pollinators. When we planting native flowers and trees, we are providing for our future.
5 WAYS TO PARTICIPATE IN NATIONAL POLLINATORS MONTH
Do you have a spot that could benefit from a pollinator garden? Well, get planting! Find out which are the best plants for your zone. Visit www.nwf.org to find out more. Honey, you won't regret it. Try these tips to get started on the right path to a pollinator garden.
- Choose bright flowers - The colors and scent attract pollinators to your garden.
- Plant for every season - While this means primarily to choose a variety of plants so you're attracting pollinators all year long, it also has another purpose. In the winter, these plants may be dormant, but they will provide a variety of seeds for pollinators to eat, bringing them back year after year.
- Welcome insects - Most of them are pollinators, too. Good bugs have the benefit of helping to keep pests at bay.
- Invite birds to your garden - Add birdhouses, provide seed or flowers they enjoy, supply a water source.
New Screen Time Policy
A few more days to give the district your opinion on screen time before the new mandates trickles down to the schools. Please take 5 minutes to provide your opinion on screen time during the instructional day. Do you want to see the students on devices more or less during the school day?
Feedback Period: FINAL DAY June 2nd!

Mr. Rodriguez
Mr. Oscar Rodriguez has been the art teacher at Multnomah for the past seven years! This Friday, June 5, will be his final day with us as he retires from his position.
Every one of our students in grades K–5 has had the privilege and pleasure of learning from his talent and creativity. Please have your child write a note of thanks as we send him off to this next chapter of his life.
Culmination
June 8th
5th Grade Culmination Information
The 5th Grade Culmination will take place in the MPR. There will be two separate ceremonies.
First Ceremony – 8:30 a.m.
- Mrs. Quiñones' class
- Parents may enter campus beginning at 8:05 a.m., after students have reported to their classrooms.
- Please be mindful of posted street signs and do not park in the valet drop-off area.
Second Ceremony – 10:30 a.m.
- Ms. Ramirez's and Mrs. Santana's classes
- Parents may enter campus beginning at 10:00 a.m.
For both ceremonies, entry will be through the main gate, and exit will be through the side gate on Multnomah Street near the staff parking lot.
Students should arrive at school at the regular start time and remain with their classes. Teachers will escort students to the MPR when it is time for their culmination ceremony.
Students should dress nicely for the occasion; however, clothing and footwear should remain age-appropriate and safe for school activities and grounds.
If you plan to take your child to celebrate after the ceremony, a QR code will be printed on the program for you to sign your child out electronically. Please do not leave campus with your child until you have shown a staff member your confirmation receipt from the Google Form.
If you plan to bring a younger sibling to attend the ceremony, you must first check that child out through the main office. Please do not go directly to the classroom. Once checked out, your child will be sent to the main office to meet you.
Seating Information
Seating in the MPR will not be reserved, and seat saving will not be permitted. Guests may sit in any available seat that is not physically occupied.
We know there are many stories and videos of families disagreeing over seating at graduation and culmination ceremonies. That will not be us. We are a supportive and respectful community that is here to celebrate our students and their accomplishments. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us create a positive experience for everyone.
Accessibility Accommodations
Families who require an accessibility accommodation are encouraged to contact the school office in advance.
Guests who need an accessibility accommodation may enter with up to one companion prior to the general admission time and wait just outside the MPR rather than in line. For the first ceremony, early entry will begin before 8:05 a.m. For the second ceremony, early entry will begin before 10:00 a.m.
To ensure fairness for all families, early accessibility entry does not allow seats to be saved for additional family members. Seating remains first come, first served for all other guests.
Additional Reminders
- If you bring balloons, please place them in the back of the MPR so they do not obstruct anyone's view.
- If you bring infants or young children, please bring any items needed to help comfort them should they become upset during the ceremony.
Thank you in advance for your support in making this a beautiful and memorable event for our young scholars as they celebrate their first academic milestone.
