Mountain View Mustangs
October 2026
Mustang Families,
We have already been in school for over a month, and our students are settling into their classrooms, learning routines, and becoming familiar with expectations. It has been exciting to see all the wonderful learning taking place and to get to know each student as they grow and thrive at Mountain View.
This month, we are focusing on one of our school's core values: Kindness. Each morning, students are discussing what kindness looks like, sounds like, and the many ways they can demonstrate the Mustang Way. We are also working hard to help students develop problem-solving skills so they can talk through conflicts and challenges with friends and classmates in positive and respectful ways.
We know that building new habits and strong relationships takes time. Research suggests that it can take about three weeks to form a habit, so we are encouraging and supporting students each day as they learn to build positive connections with one another.
We look forward to seeing all of our families at Open House on October 8 at 5:00 p.m. This is a great opportunity to visit classrooms, celebrate student learning, and connect with our school community.
Thank you for your continued support!
Go Mustangs!

Student Records - Q
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As your school secretary, I want to remind everyone how important it is to keep your contact information up to date throughout the school year.
If you have moved at any time during the school year, please provide the school with proof of your current residency so we can ensure our records remain accurate.
Parent phone numbers and emergency contacts can conveniently be updated in ParentConnect.
If you have forgotten your ParentConnect PIN number or password, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I am happy to assist you with getting your information updated so you can access your account.
Keeping your information current helps us communicate with you effectively and ensures we can reach the appropriate contacts when needed.
Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us keep our school records accurate and up to date!
Sincerely,
School Secretary
Miss Jessica
PE - Must Read from Ms. Hinkle
PE shoes help keep our students safe as they run, jump, and change directions quickly. Please make sure your child has a pair of sturdy, athletic shoes to wear for both PE and recess. We do have a limited number of shoes available for students to borrow during PE class; however, these shoes must remain in the gym and cannot be taken home or worn during recess. Thank you for helping us keep our students safe and ready to move!
Be Kind, Be Respectful, Be Safe
As we move further into the school year, our focus remains on strengthening classroom structures, routines, and positive learning habits that help all students be successful. Consistent routines create a sense of safety, build independence, and allow students to maximize their learning time each day.
We appreciate your partnership in reinforcing our schoolwide PBIS expectations at home by encouraging children to be kind, show respect to adults and peers, take responsibility for their actions, and make positive choices. When students receive consistent messages from both home and school, they are better equipped to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
As students continue to grow in their understanding of classroom expectations, our staff will provide guidance, modeling, and positive reinforcement to help them develop strong habits and self-regulation skills. Together, we can ensure that Mountain View remains a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment where every student can learn and succeed.
Picture Day - Tuesday October 27th
Picture Day flyers will be sent home soon. Photos may be purchased online, or you can send payment with your child on Picture Day. We look forward to capturing smiles from all of our students
News from Nurse Christina
Don't let germs haunt you. Frequent handwashing is still the best trick (no treats needed!) to keep colds and flu from crashing the party. Encourage your student to wash up before eating and after using the restroom.
Keep contagious creatures at home. If your student has a fever of 100.4°F or higher, is vomiting, or showing signs of something contagious, please keep them home to rest and recover. They should be fever-free (without medication) for 24 hours before returning to school!
Flu shots: not so scary after all. Flu season usually peaks between December and February, so now's a great time to talk to your child's doctor about a flu vaccine before things get spooky.
A treat, not a trick, for medications. If your student needs medication at school, remember it must be dropped off by a parent/guardian with a completed authorization form. No self-administering allowed — even on Halloween!
Wishing your family a safe and happy Halloween 🎃

Attendance
A missed school day is a lost opportunity for students to learn. There is a direct correlation between students who attend school regularly and higher academic achievement levels. Students can miss no more than 17 days of school per year. This may seem like a lot, but it's less than two absences per month.
Start Times
Reminder: Late Start Mondays @ 9:00 am, students can enter the building @ 8:50 am. Our staff has professional development every Monday.
Arrival and Dismissal
To keep our students, staff, and families safe, we ask that you review and follow the guidelines below:
- Pedestrian Safety: Please use the designated crosswalk. Do not park across McPhee Street to walk your child to school.
- Car Rider Procedures: Use the designated car rider line in the parking lot for all drop-offs and pick-ups. Please stay in your vehicle, and our staff will assist your child.
Teachers will greet students each morning at 7:50 a.m. at the exterior doors identified on the map that are closest to their classrooms.
- Late Arrivals (After 8:00 AM): Any student arriving after 8:00 AM must enter through the front of the building.
- Tardy Bell: 8:05 AM (students entering after this time will need a tardy slip)
Be Prepared
Help Us Keep Students Prepared & Comfortable!
To ensure your child has a great day at school, please help us prepare them for outdoor weather:
Outdoor Gear: We go outside rain or shine, so please send students with appropriate gear (jackets, rain boots, winter hats, gloves, and scarves).
Backup Clothing: Accidents and rain happen! Because our supply of extra clothing is limited, we highly encourage keeping a spare set of clothes in your child's cubby or backpack.
Real time Bus Updates
If your student qualifies for transportation.
StopFinder is a parent app that provides real-time notifications about your child’s school bus, including bus stop locations, pick-up/drop-off times, and customizable GeoAlerts.
Volunteer Opportunities with ASD
We would love to have you in our school.
The 2026–2027 Volunteer Application is now open! All volunteers must reapply each school year. Previous approvals do not carry over.
New this year: Volunteers who interact with students in a school for more than four (4) hours per week are required to complete the Mandatory Reporter Training before volunteering.
Breakfast
Breakfast is served and available to students until 9:00.
Free and Reduced Lunch
Families can apply online using SchoolCafé or check if their child's school participates in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), which offers free meals to all enrolled students without an application.
School Safety
Raptor Visitor Management System
To ensure the safety of our school community, all adult visitors must present a government-issued photo ID upon entry to scan into our Raptor system at the front office during school hours.
Standard Response Protocol
Regular emergency drills are a key part of keeping our schools safe. By practicing how to respond to different types of incidents—like earthquakes, evacuations, and lockdowns—students and staff build the skills and confidence they need to act quickly and stay safe. Ultimately, we practice so our entire school community is prepared and protected in any situation.
Drills
Each month, we practice safety drills to help ensure that students and staff are prepared in the event of an emergency. We will also notify families when we conduct a lockdown drill, as these drills can sometimes be concerning for both students and parents. Our goal is to practice safety procedures in a calm and supportive manner while helping everyone understand what to do during an emergency. If you ever have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out. We are always happy to help.
