Doyon News

Dear Doyon Families,
Happy Friday!
We've had a busy (and book filled) week here in school! Doyon Devours Books is officially underway! Our students are diving into reading with enthusiasm, tracking their reading minutes in class and at home and adding them to their at reading logs. Keep up the amazing reading at home, and thank you for supporting this fun read-a-thon adventure.
No School on Monday, March 9, due to teacher professional development This gives our educators valuable time to grow and plan even more great learning experiences for your children.
School Spirit Week is next week! The daily spiritwear schedule is below. We can't wait to see your creative ideas come to life.
Fourth Grade Shines with "BONES" Performance! Our fantastic fourth graders took the stage and delivered an outstanding performance of BONES! Great job, fourth grade! Your energy, teamwork, and preparation truly shone through. What a memorable highlight for the whole school community.
Fourth graders also met with students from Ipswich High School, who are studying in Yellowstone, via Zoom twice this week. Topics included our nation's complex history with indigenous peoples and the significance of bison, the IHS students' search for wolves using radio telemetry, and their exploration of the Mammoth Hot Springs.
On Wednesday, third graders welcomed Meteorologist Jacob Wycoff from WBZ. Early this year, they studied weather and climate in science, so this provided a nice refresher and extension for our students. In the Weather & Climate Unit, students learned the difference between weather and climate. They also learned about different types of clouds and what kind of weather we can anticipate from them. They learned about the water cycle, seasonal weather patterns and global weather patterns too.
The 46th Annual Elsie Piddock Competition: This annual jump rope competition is being held on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at the Ipswich High School Basketball Court. Jump ropes will be provided for all students. We ask that the adults who are driving the students to the event stay to help and be a counter for their child. Please see the flier below for more information.

Nurse's Notes
Dear Doyon Families,
In the coming weeks, I will be conducting state-mandated health screenings. These include height/weight for 1st and 4th grade students, postural/scoliosis screenings for 5th grade students as well as hearing for students through grade 3, and vision for all students. Please note that these screenings are not for diagnostic purposes but to determine if your child needs further evaluation.
If you do not wish for your child to participate, please email me at msforza@ipsk12.net and attach a physical stating the screening(s) were done to this email.
It is always a good idea to have a recent physical exam on file and keep your child's health record up to date.
In terms of school illnesses, we are again seeing a bit of everything across all grades - some strep in kindergarten and some tummy bugs (presenting as nausea, dizziness) in third grade. I also continue to see isolated cases of Flu B.
Thank you for your cooperation!
Mary Sforza RN, MSN, NCSN
School Safety
Curious about school safety procedures? Take a peek at the documents displayed below. These documents are shared with students at the start of the school year by Detective Joe Perna, our School Resource Officer. The documents may serve as a guide to support families in discussing school safety. As always, please be in touch with questions around school safety at the Paul F. Doyon Memorial School.
