Principal's Corner
Dear Milwood Elementary School Community:
We are pleased to report another exceptional week at Milwood Elementary School. Our students continue to demonstrate outstanding engagement in their learning, celebrate their achievements, and embody our core values: being Respectful, Responsible, and Results-oriented. We remain committed to fostering an environment where these three principles guide daily interactions and academic success.

Student Work
Our students have demonstrated considerable dedication and engagement throughout the opening weeks of the academic year. The work samples presented below represent a carefully selected collection of their efforts and accomplishments during this initial period of instruction. These examples showcase the progress they have made as they have settled into new routines, built relationships with their peers and teachers, and begun to master the foundational skills and concepts that will support their learning throughout the year. We are pleased to highlight these early achievements and look forward to continued growth and development as the academic year progresses.
FDSF
This is a friendly reminder that tomorrow, Tuesday, September 29th, is our First Day Shoe Fund (FDSF) Distribution Day! We currently have 207 Milwood students who will need to be sized and fitted for their new shoes.
When students return to class, their new shoes willt be placed in their lockers or cubbies to take home. Students will NOT wear the shoes during the school day or home that day.
Parents/guardians will need to approve the shoes and confirm that the size and fit are appropriate before the student wears them. If an exchange is needed, the shoes must remain unworn and in their original condition to be eligible for an exchange.
Attendance Matters
Regular school attendance is the single strongest predictor of student academic success, graduation rates, and lifelong achievement.
Why Attendance Matters
- Academic Performance: Regular attendees score higher on assessments, grasp core math and reading skills earlier, and are far more likely to read proficiently by the end of third grade
- Long-Term Risk: Chronic absence as early as kindergarten predicts lower attendance and poor grades in later years. By sixth grade, high absenteeism becomes a leading warning sign that a student might drop out of high school.
- Social Connection: Showing up daily helps students build peer relationships, practice social-emotional skills, feel a sense of belonging, and engage in hands-on learning.
