A Note from the Principal
What a wonderful first three days of school! I've loved welcoming students back to Roxboro and seeing our classrooms and hallways come alive.
This first week has been all about building relationships, establishing routines, and helping students feel safe and connected at school. I've enjoyed spending time in classrooms, in the lunch room, and on the playground and seeing the relationships our teachers and staff are already building with students. I am so appreciative of the care and energy our entire community has brought to the start of the year.
I also want to thank you -- our families -- for being such a wonderful presence at arrival and dismissal! I have really enjoyed seeing so many of you each day. Please always feel free to stop and say hello when you see me outside — I love getting to know our Rox families and putting names to faces.
We have had a great start, and I am so excited about the year ahead. Thank you for being our partners in making Roxboro such a special place for kids.
Stay dry and safe -- and of course, enjoy your weekend!

Curriculum Night at Rox El
We hope you'll join us for Curriculum Night on Tuesday, August 25th. This document shares an overview of Curriculum Night as well as access to some teacher materials, including slides from Title, ESSP, and Specials.
Families will have two opportunities to visit their child's classroom, at either 5:30 or 6:00 p.m. During each session, teachers will welcome families and provide a brief overview of classroom routines, expectations, and what students will be learning this year.
Following your classroom visit, head outside to the playground for our PTA-sponsored BBQ from 6:00-7:30 p.m. We hope you'll stay for food, fun, and a chance to connect with other Roxboro families!
We look forward to seeing you there!
Attendance Checkpoint
Regular, on-time attendance makes a big difference in student success. When students arrive on time and stay for the full school day, they are able to participate fully in learning, classroom routines, and important connections with their teachers and classmates. One of our big goals this year at Rox is to ensure strong attendance -- and that includes avoiding tardies and early dismissals.
Tardies and early dismissals add up over time and can result in students missing valuable instructional minutes. Whenever possible, we encourage families to schedule appointments and other commitments outside of the school day. Thank you for partnering with us to make every school day—and every minute—count!
Welcome Ms. Howard!
Ms. Denara Howard is a new member of the Rox El team. She is covering another new team member, fourth grade teacher Ms. Dargaj, who is out on maternity leave. Ms. Howard is a dedicated, student-focused educator who most recently served as a Long-Term Substitute Teacher at Oxford Elementary School where she taught fourth grade math. She also brings experience as a math tutor and serves as Head Cheerleading Coach at Trinity High School.
