Husky Happenings " Family Edition"
October 18

"Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much!" -Helen Keller
A note from the Principal
Unity DAY
Our Spring 2026 Social-Emotional Screener, completed by students in grades 3–5, provided some important insights:
91% of students reported feeling that they have supportive relationships with adults at Dowell!
However, only 64% of students reported positive student-to-student interactions.
While we are proud of the strong connections our students have with adults, these results remind us that we have more work to do to strengthen the relationships our students build with one another.
On Wednesday, October 21, we invite our entire Dowell community to WEAR ORANGE and stand united against bullying and for kindness, inclusion, respect, and acceptance!
But Unity Day is about more than wearing orange. It’s about making a commitment to help every student feel a sense of belonging.
Together, as families, educators, and community members, let’s be intentional about teaching kindness, encouraging friendships, celebrating differences, and helping our Huskies build positive relationships with ALL students.
Has your child shared they have witnessed bullying this year
Dowell Community Connections Council
I would like to start a council that meets monthly to discuss the culture and climate at Dowell with the goal being to support student to student interactions. We would meet monthly at Dowell and discuss concerns and ideas to support the overall student experience at Dowell. If you are interested in support me with this endeavor, please respond by clicking the Microsoft forms link below and submitting your information. ANY adult is welcome to join; community members with or without students at Dowell, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, staff members.
Lost and Found is getting full!

Mobile Dentist will be at DES on November 6th and 13th, 2026
Dear Parent,
Great news! Our school has partnered with Smile Programs…the mobile dentists to offer in-school dental care.
Even better, dental care is usually at no cost to you. All insurance is accepted including
Medicaid and CHIP. For those without insurance, a low-cost self-pay option is available.
Convenient and comfortable
Our in-school dental program saves you time and provides a safe and comfortable
place for your child to receive gentle dental care from licensed local professionals.
Dental care includes a complete dental exam, x-rays, cleaning, fluoride and sealants
when necessary, and in some cases, restorative care such as fillings.
Dental care for a healthy life
Children who see a dentist regularly may have fewer health issues like:
- Early tooth loss caused by dental decay
- Gum disease
- Heart disease

Help keep your child healthy, in school and learning.
