A Note from Ms. Martin
Pierce Families,
We've had a FANTASTIC first week of school!
A number of events are coming up next week. Please be sure to mark your calendars for the PTA meeting and Curriculum Night on September 6th and the Pierce Carnival on Friday September 8th. Please join us on Curriculum Night to spend some time learning about our curriculum and classroom routines. This evening is for parents only and we will not have childcare available. Use the schedule below so you know when to join us at Pierce!
As fall approaches and cooler weather ensues, please be sure to send your child with a light jacket or sweatshirt. Put their name on the labels as many inevitably land in our "lost & found". We want to make sure everyone is comfortable here at Pierce!
Once students return from Labor Day recess, we will be starting our i-Ready Diagnostic testing. Please read the letter below to learn more about the assessment.
I hope you all have a wonderful long weekend!
Kate Martin, Principal

Attendance Reminders
- Pierce attendance is reported using the google doc found below. If your child will NOT be in school for any reason, please complete the form before 8:49am (the earlier the better) to let us know of their absence or tardy.
- The absences reported are checked against the teacher attendance lists. If a child is not in school and the parent has not communicated the absence, the school will call your home or your place of employment (If we are unable to reach a parent, we will also call others on the emergency form). THIS IS IMPORTANT! Please ensure that you report absences on a timely basis so that follow-up calls from the school office is not necessary.
Changing Dismissal? Write your child's teacher a note!
Please let your child's teacher know directly if you need to change their dismissal. Please try not to email in the afternoon - we want to make sure all students get home safely via the correct method of transportation!
Absences and Sickness
Attendance Matters!
We don't want our students to come to school ill, but please know that we value their attendance here at Pierce!

Fun Run
- The Annual Pierce Fun Run will take place the morning of Friday, September 29th. Fun Run is an annual fundraiser that our students participate it to raise money for a local non-profit along with fund our PE Department. Each grade level will take turns running around Pierce and then cheering on their fellow Panthers. Parents are all welcome to come and cheer on their students – specific run times by grade level will be announced as we get closer.
- Sponsorship opportunities are available today – if you know a business that would be interested, there are different levels of support. Sponsor names/logos are featured on all Fun Run communication. Please contact Kim Prodan if you would like more information at Kim.prodan@hotmail.com or by phone 773-551-6076.
Happy birthday Shadow!
On August 26th, our Shadow turned 1! If you would like to celebrate with Shadow, Premier Pet Supply will accept donations to Shadow's account to help fund his care. Additionally, there is an item on the BPS eFund where donations can be made. Thank you and Happy Birthday Shadow!

Thank you for helping us to make Pierce a safer environment for your child(ren)!

BREAKFAST:
Available for FREE every school day this year, including half days. This will be a "grab and go" model and will be available before the official start to the school day.
If your child will be picking up breakfast, they will line up BEHIND the JK/K students along the front sidewalk. They will follow the Kindergarten line in and turn right into the cafeteria. They will go through the breakfast line, "grab and go" with their breakfast, and then exit out the side cafeteria doors to their grade level area. Students will be allowed to eat in their classrooms. If your child arrives late to school and wants breakfast, it will be available. However, breakfast will end at 10 am on half days.
LUNCH:
Available for FREE every school day this year, except half days when lunch is not served. Students must take a fruit or a vegetable in their lunch, otherwise is will not be counted as "free" and the student must pay.
- Domino's is still the Wednesday pizza provider and one slice will be included in with the free lunch with a fruit or a vegetable.
- Parents/guardians only need to apply for the Summer EBT and Education Benefits if they believe they would qualify based off their income.
- Extra items such as drinks, extra entrees and snacks are not included in this program but will be available for purchase.
Student account balances remaining at the end of the school year will transfer with the student to their next grade (even at a different building) within the District. Account balances can also be transferred to siblings within the Family Portal.
