Good afternoon, Lincoln Families,

I am excited to be welcoming our students and families back to school this year. I would like to start with sending my gratitude to the students and other volunteers that came out to support our annual campus beautification day this week. We are so lucky to have such a beautiful building and campus and it is great seeing a group of our students joining together to help get our grounds ready to kick off the school year.

I am also pleased to share some great news about Lincoln. As you may have seen, Lincoln was just ranked #4 in Washington State by the US News and World Report for Best High School. This is an incredible honor and testament to our amazing students and the hard work for our staff and community.

As we kick off the new year, I would like to extend a special welcome to our new students and families who will be joining our Lincoln family. We are so glad you will be part of our school. As I always share, Lincoln truly is a special place, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve our students and community at large. To our new students and families, don’t forget to join us on Thursday, August 27 for our New Student Orientation/Open House at 6:30 p.m.. You can find additional information below in the newsletter.

As a community, I deeply value the partnership we have with all of you in support of your student. It is not lost on me the trust you instill by sending your student to us every day. As a school, we strive to promote open communication and dialog with our families and to continually build upon our relationships with each of you in knowing how best to support your student. As part of our general communication, you can expect to receive our Friday newsletter every-other-week (we run this weekly in September). We also post information on our website including our calendar and daily bulletin as well as on our social media accounts. Want to know what is happening? As a first step, be sure to visit (and bookmark) our LHS Website and our calendar and daily bulletin.

Additionally, please make sure to mark your calendar to attend our fall Curriculum Night on Thursday, September 22 at 6 p.m. for a chance to meet your students' teachers and learn about the school and ways to support the learning that is happening.

We are looking forward to another great year! If, by chance, your plans have changed and your student will no longer be attending LHS, please complete the Not Attending Next Year Form

As always, I appreciate your support and partnership.

Best,

Corey

Start of School Attendance

Attendance the first week of school is incredibly important. Students who do not attend any classes during the first six days of school will be dropped from Lincoln High School as “no shows” on the seventh day. Please contact the Attendance Office at lincolnhs.attendance@seattleschools.org to let us know your student will be absent on the first day(s) of school but will attend Lincoln High School.

SPS Laptop Distribution – September 8 and 9

Lincoln is a 1:1 laptop learning environment. Personal laptops are not allowed. All students will be issued an SPS laptop and charger on September Date needed Be watching for more information. Students should bring their fully charged SPS-issued laptop and charger to school every day.

For more information regarding SPS laptops please visit: Superintendent Procedure 2022SP

Student Schedules

Counselors are in the process of finalizing schedules. Finalized schedules will be available on the Source on September 1. If needed, students can request a printed hard copy of their schedule in the Counseling Center. Please DO NOT email the Counseling department requesting a schedule change at this time.

On the first day of school, students who have a schedule hole OR have a class level placement error should drop by the Counseling Center before school. As an example, if you are in 9th grade but were inadvertently placed in a 10th grade ELA class, you would come to the Counseling Center.

For all other schedule change requests, on the second day of school students can fill out an online schedule change request form found in the Counselor Schoology page. Attempts will be made to accommodate changes based on space availability. Students should follow the schedule that shows in The Source until they see any update of classes.

School ID Pictures – September 10 & 11

All students will have their picture taken, even if they are not purchasing a picture package. These photos are what we use for student ID cards and are part of how we manage safety at school. School pictures are scheduled for September 10th and 11th and will happen though Science classes. Students not enrolled in a science class will take pictures during Mentorship and other assigned times. Any student who is absent during picture days will make it up on October 8th. School ID cards are accepted as a legal form of identification for minor students, and as such, students will not be permitted to wear non-religious head coverings for their school photos. Information will be sent out on how seniors can submit specific senior portraits (Seniors still get their photo taken on picture days).

Families can preorder portraits, and we will add the ordering link to our website's calendar here once we receive the information. Print orders will be shipped directly to families' homes in 3-4 weeks after picture day; digital orders will be sent via email from no-reply@imagequix.com. Contact Yuen Lui Studio with any questions.

Fall Fees

Lincoln Universal Supply Fee:

The suggested $85 universal supply fee will support all the learning activities across content areas and ensure all our students have the tools they need to succeed. Some classes will have additional fees for items such as AP workbooks which the students keep.

Transportation

As a reminder, no student parking is allowed in our lot during the school day. If you are dropping students off, please choose a drop-off and pick-up spot a minimum of one block away. We strongly suggest choosing a spot north of 45th and having your student cross safety in the crosswalk at Interlake.

To support the safety of our students, please do not use Interlake, Woodlawn or 43rd as your drop-off/pick-up location. Added congestion and vehicles stopping creates a safety hazard for our students who are entering in these spots.

To limit the number of cars parking in the surrounding neighborhoods, we encourage students to bus or bike when possible- racks are available in the courtyard and adjacent to the Lincoln campus on Interlake. Walking, biking, and rolling (i.e., wheelchair, scooting, and skating) to school is not only fun, but it also improves air quality around schools, reduces traffic congestion, creates community, and students start the day more alert and ready to learn.

About 1/3 of students across the district walk or bike to school. Learn more about our commitment as a community to walk, bike and role to school:

If your student drives to school, please remind them to be a good neighbor and make sure they are not parking in restricted parking zones and are not blocking driveways.

Medication at School

If your student will need to take medication at school, please email Nurse Rowlen at lerowlen@seattleschools.org to set up a time to bring in the medication and form completed by the doctor. More information about medication at school and forms can be found on the SPS website

Neighborcare Teen Health Center

Did you know that teens can get health care at school? The Teen Health Center is located at Lincoln High School and is operated by Neighborcare Health, a community health center with funding support from the City of Seattle’s Families and Education Levy.

The Teen Health Center is staffed by Medical Providers, Mental Health Therapists, and a Health Educator, providing many of the services you’d receive from your family healthcare provider in a teen-friendly setting.

More information and link to register visit the Teen Health Clinic page

Athletic Information

Lincoln High School encourages all students to explore and participate in our athletic program. Fall sports officially begin August 19th for football and August 24th for all other sports. Please email individual coaches for more details on when and where practices will be held. Signing up through Final Forms and indicating the sport you would like to play is how the coaches build their distribution list.

All athletes need to have an updated sports’ physical, which is good for two years. If you need help finding a provider to get a physical, contact our Athletic Director, Ms. Ware, or our Teen Health Center.

For more information visit our LHS athletic page. Athletic registration for Fall, Winter & Spring can be found at our registration page.

While teams may suggest a financial donation as part of our fundraising to cover the costs of gear, supplies and other expenses from families, these are suggested donation amounts and should not prevent student participation. Athletics are open to all students regardless of the ability to pay any suggested sports fee.

Please visit Metro League for game and schedule information.

Clubs and Activities are a great way for students to connect and get involved at school. Lincoln has over 90 active clubs and it is easy to start a new one. For more information and to see a list of some of our student clubs, please visit the link below.
