Message from Principal David Ewers
North Community,
I want to thank all of you who attended conferences last week. I know our staff enjoys the opportunity to visit with guardians about their child, and work on ways we can help your student achieve. We are off and running in the second quarter, looking forward to closing out October strong.
Schedule this week
We are running a modified schedule this week due to Pre-ACT testing on Wednesday for 9th graders, and our Hispanic Heritage program on Friday. The schedule is listed below.
Monday- Odd Blocks
Tuesday- Even Blocks
Wednesday- T Day for Testing
Thursday- Modified Even Block Schedule
Fridauy- Modified Odd Block Schedule
Data Report
This past week, we ran our data report for the first quarter. Our progress on our goals can be found in this link. We are meeting most of our data points, but there are some trends we need to improve as we move forward in the school year. We are also rewarding those who met the criteria for our “Strive for 155” attendance initiative this week! More information is coming soon!
Visitors to our building
Please review updated visitor guideline from the SMSD. Guidelines in English are here, and guidelines in Spanish are here.
Incentive Seminar
We have identified our students who have earned 2nd quarter . The criteria for earning an incentive pass will include the following:
- Less than 5 absences (or less than 20 class periods) not connected to a school activity.
- A’s and B’s for the quarter
- No discipline referrals
We will initiate this plan on 10/21. Students who earn the incentive pass will have the opportunity to be in the cafeteria or Rose Garden (weather permitting) on Tuesdays during seminar. Students who have earned the incentive pass can still be requested for intervention from a teacher if needed. Data will be re-evaluated at the end of each quarter/semester. Students can earn an incentive pass each quarter. Due to program limitations, we may inadvertently miss a student who has earned the incentive (student who are lab aides, students who attend classes at the CAA, etc.). Students and teachers will be provided with an appeal process if they are not included in the initial list so we can make sure we have all students who earned the incentive participating.
School Events
We are looking forward to a great week! We have multiple events happening this week, and our students would love your support! A comprehensive schedule of our events can be found here.

Back-to-School Reminders
1. Advise Students to Register. Encourage student-athletes wanting to study and compete at an NCAA school to register with the Eligibility Center at https://web3.ncaa.org/ecwr3/ Students should plan to register before their freshman year of high school (or year nine of secondary school) with a free Profile Page account. Profile Page account registrants get an NCAA ID and important reminders from the Eligibility Center as they progress through high school. These accounts can be transitioned to a paid certification account at any time.
Any student planning to compete in NCAA Division I or II sports must create a certification account before going on official visits, signing a National Letter of Intent or receiving an athletics scholarship.
Non-English Resources: The Initial-Eligibility flier and Division III Amateurism flier have been translated into French, German, Portuguese and Spanish to assist international student-athletes, their families and others involved in the student-athlete’s future goals.
Eligibility Center YouTube Channel: The Eligibility Center is now on YouTube! Our channel includes helpful videos that walk your student-athletes through their questions. Subscribe to our channel so you'll be notified as we add new content for high school counselors in the coming months.
CoreCourseGPA.com now provides a FREE NCAA/NAIA certification quiz, making it even easier for your athletes to understand the initial-eligibility requirements and take ownership of their future. It's also a great way to provide your staff PD on the topic.
After passing the 10-question quiz with a minimum score of 80%, student-athletes/staff may download a certificate to verify their accomplishment.
The quiz includes video explanations before each set of questions and can be completed in under 15 minutes.
