Nash News
Dear Families and Nash Community members,
On this Memorial Day, we come together to honor and remember the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. It is a day of reflection, gratitude, and commemoration, and I want to take a moment to extend my heartfelt wishes to our entire school community.
Memorial Day, observed annually on the last Monday of May, holds great significance in the United States. It is a time when we pay tribute to those who selflessly gave their lives while defending our freedoms and protecting our way of life. These courageous individuals, from all branches of the military, dedicated themselves to the noble cause of preserving liberty and ensuring the security of our nation.
This day serves as a solemn reminder of the countless sacrifices made by our fallen heroes and their families. It is an opportunity for us to pause and express our gratitude for the freedoms we enjoy today, freedoms that were safeguarded by the valor and dedication of those who served in the armed forces. Their sacrifice reminds us of the immense price of liberty and inspires us to strive for a better future.
As a school community, it is important for us to instill in our students a deep appreciation for the significance of Memorial Day. We have a responsibility to educate and nurture an understanding of the sacrifices made by generations past, teaching the value of freedom, patriotism, and the importance of service to others.
Our school is named after the historic Thomas V. Nash, Jr. born on December 11, 1915; he attended and graduated from Weymouth Public schools. During his school years he had an impressive athletic career in football and wrestling. He went on to Mt. Hermon and also attended Brown University where he played football. Mr. Nash was considered "one of the most feared men on Eastern gridirons." He also achieved the status of All-American in football.
Mr. Nash graduated from Brown with a B. A. in English and Education in 1940. He entered the Army Air Corps and was accepted as an Aviation Cadet in December of 1941. He was commissioned a lieutenant on January 3, 1943. His plane was lost in action on July 28, 1943. The Nash School was named in Thomas V. Nash Jr's name in the 1950s.
On this Memorial Day, let us come together as a community to honor the fallen, support their families, and express our heartfelt gratitude for their sacrifice. May we never forget their courage, dedication, and the lasting legacy they have left behind.
Wishing you all a meaningful Memorial Day.
Warm regards,
Ms. Schuhwerk
