Dear Wredling Families

This year at WMS we are going to allow costumes on Halloween Friday, October 31st because this falls on a school attendance day. Here are our guidelines:

  • Come to school ready to learn on Halloween, regardless of if you are wearing a costume or not.

  • All costuming must happen at home. That includes any hair or make-up.

  • With make-up, we need to be able to know who you are-no full face make-up.

  • The costume must be school appropriate.

  • No masks or inflatable costumes allowed for students.

  • No carrying around anything extra. (ex. props, fake weapons, scythes, clubs, dolls, etc.)

  • You will be changing for PE. Teachers are expected to teach that day, though they may have Halloween themed lessons.

  • There will be no Halloween parties. Or candy. Or other treats. Because you will get enough junk at night if you trick or treat.

  • After Halloween, you can only bring a couple of pieces of candy per day. In the wise words of Mr. Loversky, if you bring more, I will get it and I will eat it. And I don't need any more candy. And please, throw out your trash.

Proud to be a RedHawk

First Period Tardy Updates

As we wrap up the first quarter, we want to thank you for your patience as we piloted our new system for tracking first-period attendance and reinforcing bell-to-bell instruction. With over 1,300 students, it’s been a learning process — and we appreciate your support!

Each quarter, first-period tardies reset, giving students a fresh start. Moving forward, our deans will oversee tardies based on student last names:

  • Denise Hooks: Last names A–Le
  • Melissa Hickman: Last names Li–Z

To ensure consistency and help students build good routines, the following sequence of communication and consequences will apply each quarter:

  • 2 tardies: Text notification to families
  • 3 tardies: Final warning text/email
  • 4+ tardies: After-school detention assigned*
  • 5+ tardies: parent/student problem solving conference/continuation of discipline

*Failure to serve an assigned detention will result in a discipline referral and a progression of consequences.

Thank you for partnering with us to help students start each day on time and ready to learn!

WMS Drop Zone

The WMS Drop Zone is a place where parents can “drop” off items that a student might have forgotten at home. Our goal is to maximize student learning time and reduce in-class interruption. The Drop Zone should be used infrequently. We want students to learn that there are natural consequences for forgetting items too often.

WMS Drop Zone Guidelines:

  • Students will not be called out of class for items brought to the school; they need to check the Drop Zone if they have forgotten an item.

  • All items must be labeled with the student’s name.

  • Expected Drop Zone items include: a project, instrument, uniform, or lunch. A good rule of thumb is if the item is important to the student’s health or learning.

  • Note: When phones are being dropped off for a student, they will be held in the main office until the end of the day.

We encourage students to be responsible for bringing everything to school that he/she will need for the day. Packing a backpack the night before can help with organization. The staff of Wredling Middle School is not responsible for any item left in the Drop Zone.

Getting a Message to Your RedHawk

We understand that there may be an occasion when you need to get a message to your child during the school day. Our goal is to reduce interruptions to the school day while also making sure your child is safe. With that in mind, please use these guidelines when you need to get a message to your child:

  • Plan ahead whenever possible: By letting your child know the schedule for the next day, you should be able to minimize the need for a message.

  • Sending a message should be infrequent and only done when the information is important to your child’s safety or in an emergency.

  • Send the message early! When we receive a call from you asking for a message to be sent, we will send it to all of your child’s teachers from that period forward. While we encourage teachers to check their email frequently, we cannot guarantee that your child will receive the message.

  • If an urgent message must get to your child immediately, we will use our school’s paging system to call into a classroom. Our aim is to do this very rarely so as to not interrupt learning.

Dear WMS Parents and Students:

We want to remind you about a few practices we follow to make Wredling run smoothly. Parents, please review these with your child.

During the school day:

  1. No outside drinks (Starbucks, Dunkin’, energy drinks, etc..) should be brought in during the morning. Students are welcome, and encouraged, to bring water.

    * Students will be directed to finish all non-water beverages before entering the building.

  2. Parents are welcome to drop off lunch only for their own child - not a group.

    * Parent deliveries should be brought to the main office.
    * Food and beverages may only be provided for your individual student. Ex: a pizza cannot be purchased for a group of students.
    * Students are not permitted to use apps to have food delivered to the school.

  3. The main office WILL NOT accept or sign for delivered lunches for students .

*If there is an emergency situation and you need to send something for your student, please get in touch with the main office with details so they don't turn away the delivery driver. 331-228-3700

WMS Student Athletes:

  1. You are welcome and encouraged to send them to school with a second lunch/snack. Their day can be long!

  2. Parents are welcome to drop off a snack or small meal only for their own child - not a group.

    * Parent deliveries should be brought to the main office.
    * Food and beverages may only be provided for your individual student. Ex: smoothies cannot be purchased for a group of students. And students are not permitted to use apps to have food delivered during the school day.

  3. The main office WILL NOT accept food from a delivery service (UberEats, DoorDash, etc.,) for student athletes.

    * If there is an emergency situation and you need to send something for your student, please get in touch with the main office with details so they don't turn away the delivery driver. 331-228-3700

Thank you for your help and cooperation.

Help Us Collect ONE MILLION Pop Tabs!

We’re on a mission to collect one million pop tabs for Ronald McDonald House Charities, and we can’t do it without YOU (and your grandparents, cousins, neighbors, and carpool crew)!

Those tiny aluminum tabs from soda cans, soup lids, or sparkling water may seem small—but when we collect them together, they add up to real support for families with seriously ill children.

Here’s how to pitch in:

  • Save your pop tabs at home—and ask your grandparents, cousins, friends, and neighbors to do the same!

  • Bring them to school all year long.

  • Every tab brings us closer to our 1,000,000-tab goal!

Let's pull together and make a difference!
