January 6, 2026
Hello Families,
We are in the heart of winter and hopefully everyone is feeling rested after some time off from school. Students will be taking their Winter instructional screeners (4K-4th- AIMs, and 5th grade MAP). Attached are the annual reminders that were sent in Fall that explain these instructional screeners that are given in Fall, Winter and Spring. Your child’s teacher will follow up with a communication once they are completed with the results.
Winter can also be a hard time for all individuals with the dark and cold so I am including some things to be mindful of in how you can best support your learner at home.
At home, some easy tips for supporting your child’s overall well being, which in turn positively impacts their engagement at school:
Sleep- there is nothing more important to your child’s growth and ability to engage during the day than getting enough sleep each night! Having a consistent bedtime and routine at bed time are essential for helping children unwind each night!
Physical activity and fresh air- whether it's an organized activity or just getting outside to play or go for a walk, the colder months can make it more difficult, but finding ways to bundle up and get outside are so important!
Reading - whether your child independently reads, you read aloud to them, they read aloud to you, you listen to an audio book...reading should be part of your child's daily at home routine! Trips to the Franklin Library or visiting other surrounding community libraries make for great outings during the cold months!
Screen Time - Limiting screen time on school nights helps children get better sleep, stay focused, and come to school ready to learn. Even small changes—like turning screens off an hour before bedtime—can support healthier routines and stronger learning habits.
Sincerely,
Ms. Imperiale, Principal

STUDENT ENGAGEMENT SURVEY 1/19-1/23
Between 1/19 and 1/23 your student will be participating in a Student Engagement Survey. This survey was written by the district and takes less than 10 minutes to complete. It asks students to respond to questions in areas related to environment, learning, and relationships. Information from this survey is used by teachers and administrators to identify areas of improvement related to the student experience. If you have questions about the survey, please contact Ms. Imperiale.
FPMS 5th GRADE TO 6th GRADE TRANSITION PLANNING
We can’t believe it, but it is almost time for our 5th grade students to choose their classes for the 2026-2027 school year! Some important timelines to know:
A virtual presentation with an introduction to Forest Park Middle School was made available to all parents on Friday, December 19th, just before Winter Break.
A middle school counselor will be visiting each elementary school to speak with students about middle school courses the week of January 5th-9th.
Registration in PowerSchool will open on Friday, January 9th.
As a family, we encourage you to have conversations with your student(s) about their hopes for middle school. Our middle school classes are one of many ways for students to begin exploring their interests and learning more about themselves. We will continue to include transition information in our weekly bulletin for families. As always, if you ever have a question, please don’t hesitate to reach out. See this communication from FPMS for more details and contact info.
YEARBOOK ACTIVITY PHOTOS
