FROM DOAN'S DESK....
Happy Halloween!
As we enter the season of fall holidays and celebrations, we have just a couple of reminders of some upcoming school events. Saturday, November 8th at 6:00pm is the Monarch Booster Club “Black & Gold Bash” at the Lionsgate Event Center. This is an important event that raises a significant amount of money to support Monarch activities and sports programs. Tickets (click here to purchase) are $50 and the event includes a casino, live auction, food, and drink tickets. Immediately following that event, families will have an extended weekend with no school in session on Monday, November 10th (Teacher Work Day) and Tuesday, November 11th (Veterans Day).
So we hope everyone has a safe and happy Halloween this weekend and a great couple of days of break in November.

Community Food and Basic Needs Resources
We know that the current government shutdown and pause in SNAP benefits may create additional stress for some families. Please know that there are local resources available to help ensure everyone has access to food and essential items.
The Well Mind Connection has shared a list of community resources, including local food pantries, mobile food distributions, and assistance programs throughout Boulder County. You can find these and other helpful links HERE.
Here are some local resources for families:
- Colorado 211: Call 2-1-1- or 866-760-6489 or visit www.211colorado.org
- Feeding Colorado: Visit www.feedingcolorado.org/find-food or email info@feedingcolorado.org
- Hunger Free Colorado Food Resource Hotline: 855-855-4626
If your family could use extra support, or if you know someone who might, please take a moment to explore these options.
Our school community cares deeply about the well-being of every student and family.

We want to remind all BVSD families that in addition to free lunch, we offer a full breakfast every morning at schools. You can find the 2-week breakfast cycle on our website, or toggle to “Breakfast” on our interactive menu calendar to see what is served each day!
BVSD Board Supports Ballot Measures to Extend Free Meals Beyond 2025
This November, voters will consider two ballot measures, Propositions LL and MM, that aim to secure funding to continue the Healthy School Meals for All (HSMA) program, which was originally approved by voters in 2022, via Proposition FF.
High participation and rising food costs statewide have required a funding adjustment to continue the program, which has provided free, nutritious meals to all students since the 2023-2024 school year. Since school meals have been free, lunch participation increased by 40% and breakfast by 90% district-wide. Read more.
