PTSA Updates PTSA Updates

This week: the bakers have stepped up. Now we need people to help sell the goodies!

🌱 Happening Now 🌱

Thank you, Fenwick! Our Fenwick Beer and Wine fundraiser raised $210 for Sligo PTSA. Thank you to Fenwick and everyone who participated!

✨ Support the Work ✨

Cookies need salespeople. Our Election Day bake sale is Tuesday, November 3, from 6 a.m.–noon at Sligo Middle School. Thanks to our generous bakers, we're in good shape for treats. Our biggest need now is table volunteers—especially for the 8–10 a.m. shift, which still has both spots open. There are also openings from 6–8 a.m. and 10 a.m.–noon. Choose a shift on SignUpGenius. Students can earn SSL hours; if your student is helping at the table, sign up under your name and put their name and grade in the comments.

Want to try famous bakes? Olga Massov is making her rye chocolate chip cookies, published in The Washington Post, for us. Come work the bake sale table!

I, Riki Conrey, will be baking and will be serving, and at least one other PTSA celebrity will be there. If you have questions, just reply to this email (don’t reply all 🙂). I’d love to meet you in person!

Let Ledo handle dinner November 16–17. Ledo Pizza in Wheaton, at 2638 University Blvd. W, will donate 20% of fundraiser proceeds to Sligo PTSA from 4–9 p.m. both days. Dine in and mention the Sligo Middle School fundraiser or show the flyer. For online carryout, order through Ledo Pizza, enter FUNDRAISER, and click Apply. For phone carryout, call 301-929-6111, mention the fundraiser when ordering, and confirm at pickup. Order directly: third-party delivery orders do not count.

Picture Day Picture Day

Wednesday is Picture Day! Portraits will be taken in Health/Physical Education class. Please see the linked flyer for more information.

MCPS Weekly Update

MCPS Weekly Update

Enrollment in MCPS is declining for the first time in more than 40 years. As a result, some schools have more available space than they need, while other communities are still growing. That means it’s time to take a thoughtful, countywide look at how we are using our schools and facilities and plan for a better future for all students.

Safety Reminders Safety Reminders

Each morning and afternoon, many buses, cars, bicyclists, and pedestrians will be arriving at and departing from our campus. It is essential that everyone moves slowly, remains alert, and makes safety a priority during arrival and dismissal.

As outlined in the summer letter, the car drop-off area is located on the side of the building. Cars should not enter the bus loop directly in front of the school during arrival or dismissal, and students should not be dropped off on Dennis Avenue. All pedestrians should use the designated crosswalk.

MCPS is implementing a new cellphone regulation this school year that will help students stay focused and connected in the classroom. All personal mobile devices will be expected to be put away for all grade levels during the academic day — from the first bell through dismissal. This action is expected to result in fewer disruptions and help students stay engaged in learning. If you are interested in learning more, you can read the following FAQ.
