The Horse Relative

This documentary was filmed to showcase the art of horse regalia by the Dakota. It takes place in various communities across southern Minnesota and South Dakota, but largely focused within Morton, MN. I was fortunate to serve as the educational editor for this project, with two additional projects forth coming from Pioneer PBS. Jamie Steffl, art teacher from Redwood Falls Area Schools as a writer of the lesson.

Pioneer Specials Artists James Star Comes Out and Keith Braveheart of the Oglala Lakota tribe of South Dakota and Dakota Wicohan collaborated with Pioneer PBS to create this documentary. Follow the difficult path Native people and their horse relatives traversed, as foreigners settled the surrounding lands and learn how the Dakota people of Minnesota are working to keep their cultural identity thriving.
