BASH Telecom Intern Earns Honor
Submitted by Mrs. Warren, BASH Internship Mentor Coordinator
I recently had the pleasure of attending the 2nd BBEC Summit at the Doubletree Hotel in Reading.
Seventeen interns were honored with the Student Internship Excellence Award. Giancarlo Gargano from Boyertown was honored for his excellent work in this Telecom Internship with Bill Cherkasky.
His work includes filming commercials, editing interviews, and producing funny and interesting intros for TV News. He also helped produce the Tri-County Chamber of Commerce short film used at their event last spring. Giancarlo hopes that what he learns in the internship will help with a future goal as a Film Producer and or behind the scenes work of a major TV show.

Girls Volleyball Honors Breast Cancer Awareness Month
with their 9th Annual Dig Pink
On October 1st, the Boyertown Lady Bears Volleyball team hosted Spring Ford for the 9th annual Dig Pink event. This event runs each year to support local charities or individuals being impacted by breast cancer. As part of their event, the team raised funds for Boyertown graduate, Nicole Livelsberger.
Nicole is a 2003 honors graduate of Boyertown Area High School. She competed in three sports, field hockey, basketball, and track & field. She was also an active member of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), where she competed at the state level. Nicole went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Accounting with a minor in Fraud Investigation from Bloomsburg University. She currently serves as a Senior Grants Analyst at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. In her spare time she has served as a foster volunteer in her Delaware community to many rescue dachshund dogs. She currently lives with her foster “fail” beloved dog Chovie in Middletown Delaware. In the spring of this year, at the age of 40, Nicole was diagnosed with breast cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatments at the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center and Research Institute. Her strength and perseverance continue to inspire those around her as she faces this challenge with courage and determination.

"It's hip to be SQUARE!"
Just ask Huey Lewis and the Math Teachers at MSE
Middle School East's 8th grade math teachers enjoyed celebrating a "Perfect Square Day" on 9.16.25. Each number, in sequential order, is a perfect square of 3, 4, 5.
Additionally, the 3, 4, 5 triangle is known as the Pythagorean Triangle.
It couldn't have been a more perfect day to be a math fan!

Ever Wonder about the IMPACT of Professional Learning
on Our Educational Team, BASD Students,
...and Beyond?
BASD is often asked about the number of professional learning full and early dismissal days included in our calendar for the school year. Usually, our response includes an acknowledgement that scheduling for those days can be tough for our families and the number of mandates put forth by the state, changing curricula, etc. ~ all true in the world of public education.
Rarely, do we share personal, direct, positive feedback from members of our team. However, we received the following emails from team members capturing the IMPACT these days can have for our educators and, in turn, our students.
I’m writing to express my sincere appreciation for the recent Health and Physical Education professional development workshop that was held yesterday 10/13 at Boyertown Middle School West. The HPE staff and the district's wellness coordinator worked hand in hand with the BCIU to create a fantastic day for Health and Physical Educators across Berks County as this was a County Wide Professional Development.
The sessions were not only incredibly informative but also inspiring and energizing. They provided a perfect balance of theory, practical strategies, and hands-on activities that will undoubtedly enhance our effectiveness as educators.
The facilitators were engaging, knowledgeable, and passionate about the topics they presented. They created an inclusive and motivating environment that encouraged collaboration, idea-sharing, and personal reflection. It was refreshing to participate in a PD experience that felt so relevant to our daily teaching practice and the needs of our students. The sessions included Quick games for Fun and Fitness, Yes, You Can Teach Dance, Quick wins, engaging activities for Elementary PE, Pickleball 101, Intro to Rugby, Empowerment stroll, OMNIKIN, CrossFit in Schools, Special Olympics Unified Spots, USTA Tennis in Schools, Girls on the Run, Geocaching & Scavenger hunts for Active Learning, What Mr. Potato Head can Teach Us, Yoga in PE, Winter Olympics, CPR Certification, and Basic Archery Instruction.
The sessions left educators feeling more confident, equipped with new tools and resources, and excited to implement what they learned. It’s clear that a lot of thought and effort went into organizing this professional development, and I want to acknowledge everyone involved in the process. We look forward to creating future workshops with the same level of excellence in the future.
*******************
Our pre-k counts team joined other early learning educators at Rock Hollow Woods in Birdsboro for a rainy day of outdoor adventure and inspiration. The professional development opportunity was provided by Total Experience Learning through Alvernia College. The pre-k team was able to participate in hands on learning experiences and discovered how to use nature to spark curiosity, build literacy-rich learning experiences and engage children in meaningful ways. They came back with great ideas ready to use in their classrooms to engage children in meaningful play by using discovery tables, stem activities, and hands on nature activities. It was a great day of learning for our Pre-K team!
To paraphrase Robert John Meehan, teachers who love learning teach children to love learning. Clearly, our teachers enjoy life-long learning and look forward to IMPACTing their students through the ongoing professional learning they receive. Thank you for sharing your message!
