We Are Learning About Clothes!

This month the children will study clothing. As we study clothes, we will learn concepts and skills in literacy, math, science, social studies and the arts. We’ll also use thinking skills to investigate, ask questions, solve problems, make predictions, and test our ideas.

To support this learning at home, here are some things to discuss with your child.

* Talk about the weather, and how the weather affects what clothing they need to wear. What do you wear when it is cold? Or Hot? What do you wear when it rains? Or when it snows?

* You can also look at different kinds of fabrics together and discuss how clothes are made. Look at the labels to find out where clothes are made and the type of fabric used.

* When you shop for clothes, help your child notice how the clothes are organized in the store. How are they grouped together?

* Have your child help you with the laundry by sorting socks, shirts, and pants.

How Wacky Can You Get?

Wacky Wednesday is one of Dr. Seuss’ best-loved books! It is about a boy who wakes up one morning to find everything quite wacky in his world. We will celebrate Wacky Wednesday as a Spirit Day on January 21, 2026. We thought it would be fun for your child to dress wacky. Here are some suggestions:

* wearing one pant leg up and one down * mixing plaids with stripes or prints

* wearing a t-shirt backwards or inside out * buttons could be buttoned wrong

* wearing two different colored socks

Have fun brainstorming with your child and selecting an outfit that will be comfortable yet wacky. Thanks in advance for helping to make our day special.

Can you find a pattern on your clothes?

In math, we are learning about patterns. Simple patterns have 2 colors or variables that repeat in the same order, for example red, blue, red, blue. You can help your child by looking for patterns together, for example there are patterns in clothing, such as stripes or prints. You can also help them to create patterns at home using small toys, stickers or stamps. Always have your child tell you about the pattern when they are done.

Can You Create A Movement Pattern?

Your child has been engaged in many gross motor activities in the multi-purpose room, such as hopping and skipping. You can reinforce these skills at home by having your child walk, jump, sit, turn, hop and skip. You can even create movement patterns such as walk, skip, jump, walk, skip, jump.

Wear Sneakers Every Day!

Please have your child wear sneakers to school every day. The children are running, jumping and playing in the schoolyard and in the gym. Sneakers with Velcro are helpful because your child can put them on and take them off independently. If your child wears boots to school please send them in with sneakers to change into.

Through additive construction techniques, students will build and strengthen structures by adding materials for support and visual interest. Using a variety of materials, students will create sculptures that represent familiar objects such as animals and vehicles, drawing from observation.
