Weekly Community Updates - September 5
Dear Students and Families,
I hope students had a great three day weekend! And, I am sure they are looking forward to another 4 day week. As a reminder, students do not have school on Wednesday September 10th as this is a staff development day. We hope students enjoy their middle of the week day off.
Back to School Night is only two weeks away! We look forward to seeing everyone on Thursday September 18th. Starting at 5:45pm, we will have tables in the courtyard where you can grab pizza, visit OSPTO or check out a few clubs that Oceana has to offer. Grade level presentations start at the following times:
- 6:00 pm - Freshman Orientation Project (information coming from 9/10 house)
- 6:15 pm - Senior Presentation (Theater)
- 6:35 pm - Junior Presentation (Library)
- 6:35 pm - Sophomore Presentation (Staff Lounge)
- 6:30 pm - Lifeskills Program Presentation (Room 107)
After the presentations, families can follow their students' schedules to meet their students' teachers. Please be sure to screenshot your student's schedule through ParentVUE as we will not be printing out schedules.
Take care,
Maritza Torres
Casual Dance - Friday September 12th
Oceana's first dance is coming up! Students, before you head to the dance, be sure you're familiar with the rules to ensure a fun and safe night.
Students will not be admitted 30 minutes after the dance begins, so don’t be fashionably late past 7:00 pm. If you need to leave, you may do so 1.5 hours after the start without a parent call. Backpacks and large bags are not permitted, small bags (5.5" by 8") are allowed for students whose attire do not include pockets. All students will be searched before entering, and students may be rechecked at any time. Only unopened disposable water bottles are allowed, and outside opened drinks are not permitted. If you bring a guest from another school, you are responsible for their behavior.
Students must comply with all supervising personnel immediately when given a directive. The school dress code will still be enforced, so plan your outfit accordingly. Prohibited items include weapons such as pocket knives or pepper spray, as well as drugs, alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, and even over-the-counter pain relievers. Any student who fails to follow these rules may be removed from the dance, and their family will be called to pick them up. Follow the guidelines, be respectful, and enjoy the night!
For the full rules and protocols, please review this document.
Back to School Night
We are excited to see everyone at Back to School Night! Please join us for tabling, grade level presentations and visiting your student's classrooms.
Please take a screenshot of your student's schedule from ParentVUE as we will not be passing out printed schedules.
JUHSD Survey for Cell Phone Policy

Close Up Washington DC Interim
Close Up Washington DC interim is open to 11th and 12th graders. We ask students to choose this interim early because it requires fundraising and additional planning. Interested students should return the interest form by Friday, September 12th so that we can determine how many students want to participate, It is limited to 30 students and, like all interims, seniors have priority. There is an informational meeting during flextime on Monday the 8th in Ms. Bussell's room 212.
This is a great opportunity for students who want to explore the nation's capital and meet other high school students from around the country.
Jefferson Union Sustainability Committee

Cell Phone Policy
Cell phones are a major distraction from learning and socializing in schools. Our school policy is that devices are stored off and in a place that is not visible for the duration of each class time, including walking to and from the bathroom, library or counseling hall during their class time. Staff members have the option of requisitioning the device and turning it over to the front office. The student can retrieve their device at the end of the school day. If a student repeatedly fails to adhere to this policy, they should expect to turn in their device into the office every morning.

Today was the beginning of a yearlong culinary partnership with the Culinary Arts students (second year students in the Culinary CTE track), Jefferson High School Culinary students, and Pie Ranch Chef Educator.
