PRAYER PRAYER

zoom_out_map

God of all blessings, you revealed in Mary MacKillop a sensitivity to the rights and dignity of every person, regardless of race or creed.

May we learn from her to overcome the obstacles of prejudice and fear. Help us to value the goodness of each person and all the blessings of unity in diversity.

We ask this through the depth and unity of you, our bountiful God, who hold all things in being.

Amen

FEAST OF MARY MCKILLOP

Tomorrow, we celebrate the life of St Mary of the Cross McKillop.

Who is Mary McKillop?
Mary McKillop is Australia’s first and only saint. She was born in Victoria in 1842 and had seven brothers and sisters. She started the Sisters of St Joseph order with Father Julian Tenison Woods and opened schools all over Australia so children across the country could receive an education. Mary faced many challenges throughout her life but always looked after others, especially vulnerable communities. Our Catholic school systems across Australia are indebted to the many teaching orders of nuns who saw a need for education for the poor and filled it. We wish the Josephite order (Sisters of St Joseph) our best wishes on their special day tomorrow, as we remember with gratitude, St Mary of the Cross on her Feast Day.

ILLNESS

As many parents will realise, there are a number of viruses circulating through our school at the moment. Our staff and students have been hit particularly hard since the start of the term. We thank those parents who have been keeping children home when they are unwell and ask that parents continue to allow students time to convelesce at home. Hopefully, we’ll see a reduction in these ’nasties’ over the next few weeks.

YEAR 2 ASSEMBLY

The Year 2 class will be presenting their assembly item tomorrow and the excitement is mounting within the class. There will be a special guest at this assembly. Mr Sam Lim MP, Federal member for Tangney will be joining us, to gift the school with an Australian flag to replace our current one which is very much worse for wear. We thank Mr Lim for visiting our school. Our assembly starts at 8.50am.

SCHOOL RULES

Parents who drop off their children in the morning will more than likely hear my ’toot, toot’ whistle in the mornings while I’m on duty. Just to assure everyone that I’m not practising for a whistle-blowing competition. The whistle is a reminder to students about our playground rules which are in place for their safety. The ’toot, toot’ for running in the undercover area has been practised a lot lately. Please don’t be offended if I ’toot’ your child - my only agenda is their safety and the safety of others.

Have a lovely weekend!

Canteen Volunteers

Our canteen manager, Sharon is in need of assistance on Thursday and Friday mornings. If you can spare an hour or two on either of these days, please see Sharon. A reminder that the Volunteers Form will need to be filled out if it hasn’t already been submitted this year. Due to Child Safety regulations, only parents can volunteer in the canteen – friends or grandparents require a Working With Children Card.

Parking and Drive Thru Arrangements

A reminder for everyone to be aware of our parking and drive through arrangements at the front of the school as the safety of our children is of paramount importance.

  • Vehicles will enter via the middle driveway on Tribute St East.
  • If you wish to park and leave your car to come into the school, please turn to the left and park in one of the bays adjacent to the Early Learning Centre or use the marked roadside bays outside the school.
  • When exiting the car park, you will do so at the exit closest to Vahland Ave.
  • If you are only dropping-off or picking-up, then please veer right and enter the drive-thru area. In this area you may not park or leave your vehicle unattended - it is strictly drop-off or pick- up only!
  • When exiting the drive-thru section you will use the exit closest to Tudor Ave.
  • Children waiting to be picked up are to wait on the verandah, under teacher supervision, and when they see their parent’s car enter the drive-thru, they may proceed down the steps at either end of the ramp and wait on the footpath adjacent to the bay where their parent has pulled up.
  • Children should enter vehicles from the curbside only to avoid passing vehicles.

Volunteering

The Government of WA have amended the Working with Children Act last year with the changes implemented to better protect children. Catholic Education WA has mandated this process for all volunteers, including parent volunteers in schools. This includes parents who wish to volunteer at sports carnivals, in classrooms and at P&F events. Could we ask that all parents fill in the Volunteer Declaration (link) even if you have no plans at this stage to volunteer at school. If you filled out the form last year you will need to do it again this year. Parents who wish to assist teachers on excursions will need to be on this list. Your information will be stored securely in accordance with CEWA’s Information Stewardship. We highly value parent volunteers' time and contribution to our school community and thank-you for taking the time to submit the form below.

Any grandparents that wish to volunteer in the classroom or assist in the canteen will need a Working With Children Check. Please note this does not include drop off, pick up or attendance at our Grandparents Mass and Morning Tea. Grandparents that would like to volunteer at school, please contact the school office and we can assist you in the process.

Catholic Performing Arts Festival

The Catholic Performing Arts Festival commences this term, and I would like to wish our entries all the best as they participate in this wonderful festival. I have included a schedule outlining dates for students who have entered.

Please remember, it is the parent’s responsibility to transport their child to their Instrumental or Vocal Performance. Students are required to be there at least 15 minutes before their session.

Each student is to prepare a brief introduction before their item including their name, school name and name of their piece of music. Please encourage your child to practice this beforehand.

Students are to wear their academic winter school uniform for their performance. School jumpers are preferred as opposed to their winter jackets. Please ensure that if your child requires a backing track, that you have your own mobile device and speaker ready to play, preferably Bluetooth or wireless. No CDs please.

All parents / guardians must purchase a ticket to attend the performance. Please note, tickets will not be sold at the door. Tickets for the 36th Performing Arts Festival are available to purchase from FRIDAY 4TH JULY. All ticketing links can be found via the Spirit of the Arts website https://www.spiritofthearts.com.au/performing-arts-festival/, under each festival section.

Kind regards
