OC Elementary Principal's Update
April 2026
Thank you!
We are so grateful to our entire school community for the enthusiasm, generosity, and support shown during our very first Book Blast. Thanks to your efforts, we raised over $21,000 to support student literacy!
Because of this amazing achievement, every student will receive at least five books to take home and add to their personal library. This is a powerful investment in our students’ love of reading and lifelong learning.
Thank you to our families, staff, and supporters who made this inaugural event such a success—we couldn’t have done it without you!
Testing Season
April 9: 5th Grade Science NSCAS
April 14–15: 3rd–6th Grade English Language Arts NSCAS
April 21–22: 3rd–6th Grade Math NSCAS
Week of April 27: Kindergarten–2nd Grade MAP Assessment (Reading & Math)
In addition, all Kindergarten through 6th grade students will take the i-Ready diagnostic assessment for math.
These assessments are an important opportunity for students to show what they’ve learned this year. You can help your child do their best by ensuring they get plenty of sleep and eat a healthy breakfast each day.
Thank you for your support!
Read Across America Fun
Reading to our preschool friends!
Green Eggs and Ham in 3rd grade!
Reading is so much fun!
Spring is here!
With warmer temperatures in the forecast, please remember that students are still required to wear sleeves when the temperature is below 50 degrees. We encourage families to continue sending jackets with students, especially for morning recess.
As the weather warms up, we often see an increase in jackets being left around the building, which quickly fills our lost and found. Please remind your child to keep track of their belongings and bring their jackets home each day.
Thank you for your help in keeping our students comfortable and organized!
One Book, One School Event
We are excited to kick off our second annual One Book, One School reading event! This year, every family will receive a copy of Mr. Popper’s Penguins to read together at home over the next few weeks.
This program is designed to build a strong “Community of Readers,” bringing students, families, and staff together through a shared reading experience. Families will follow a provided schedule of 2–3 chapters per week.
Throughout the event, students can participate in fun activities, including weekly trivia and a schoolwide celebration at the end. Reading together at home not only strengthens literacy skills but also creates meaningful family time.
We look forward to enjoying this story together as a school community!
Student of the Month
Congratulations to our Student of the Month, Ryker Swenson! We are so proud of the hard work, positive attitude, and strong character he demonstrates each day. Keep up the great work!
