Mustang News: April 24, 2026
From the Principals Desk
Thank you to all of the families who joined us for our Honors Ceremony yesterday as we celebrated the students who made the honor roll this year. Honor roll is not just a reflection of knowledge, but a recognition of the hard work, dedication, and growth our students have shown in their academics. It was a special opportunity to come together and celebrate their efforts.
I would also like to share that our amazing counselor, Mrs. Lamar, will be stepping into a new role next year as our GCS Teacher Librarian. We are excited to see what she brings to this position and look forward to watching her impact students across our entire 1st through 8th grade community. Congratulations to Mrs. Lamar on this exciting next adventure.
We have officially completed CMAS testing. Thank you to our students, staff, and families for your support during this busy time of year. Your flexibility and encouragement help make these weeks run smoothly.
Please mark your calendars for our inaugural home track meet on May 8. It is going to be a fun and exciting event as we host on our brand new district track facility. We hope to see you there supporting our student athletes.

Hi there, GMS family!
I have been inspired by so many things happening around GMS right now. We have students helping out with projects around the school, making new friends, working really hard in their classes, trying new things, and persevering through challenges. I was talking to a 7th grader who decided to try Track and Field this year, and when I asked him what his favorite part of the sport was, he said that he was just really proud of himself for committing to something that he'd never done before and taking a risk. This is also the time of year where we are talking about transitions, whether that's getting ready to head to a new school (we'll miss you, 8th graders!!) and moving to the next grade level. There are lots of emotions that come with change! I wanted to let you all know that I will be entering a new chapter myself next year. After 16 years of being a School Counselor (and almost 20 in the Mental Health field), I am thrilled and honored to announce that I will be the Teacher Librarian at Gunnison Community School, starting in the fall. I feel nervous to be stepping into this new role, with big shoes to fill and a lot to learn. But I'm also so energized by the opportunity to inspire a love of reading, learning, and curiosity in a new way. I am grateful that I'll still be able to work with you and your children and can't wait to see where this new adventure leads us all. It has been such an honor and privilege to be the GMS School Counselor and I hope that you will come by the library to visit next year!
