Letter from Ms. Bedford

Hello Smallville!

I can not believe we are already at the end of the first week of school! I wanted to take a moment to share our excitement and gratitude for the amazing start we've had here on campus. Meeting all of our students and having them back in the building has been truly heartwarming. The energy and enthusiasm that fills our halls remind me of the incredible community we are a part of. Seeing your children's smiles and hearing their laughter has made the beginning of this school year a memorable one. I love that the students are introducing themselves to me and have welcomed me with open arms. I have felt the Cougar love!

Sending a huge congratulations to all of our volleyball and football players as they kick off their seasons! We're proud of their dedication and hard work. We'll be right there on the sidelines, cheering them on and supporting their efforts throughout the season.

Make sure to take a moment to review the updated district Student Dress Code

and Student Success Guide.

On another note, we understand that scheduling is a top priority for many of you, and we want to assure you that we are diligently working through the process. Our counseling team is putting in extra effort to answer the large volume of emails we've received regarding schedule changes and questions. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we strive to create the best possible learning experience for every student. I do want to reiterate that due to the vast increase in our school’s enrollment numbers, several of our classes are at capacity. Our counseling team is working hard to meet your individual requests, but there are times that our current master schedule and class sizes do not allow for certain requests to be finalized. We know that this situation can be frustrating, but understand that we are taking the requests seriously and are trying everything in our power to grant the schedule change, if it is possible to make the move. We kindly request that you maintain a demeanor of calmness and respect when communicating with staff. Effective and respectful communication enables us to better address your concerns and work towards a positive resolution.

In the coming weeks, we look forward to more wonderful moments of learning, and camaraderie. Thank you for entrusting us with your children's education.

Have a great weekend!

Bedford

  • Wear comfortable shoes
  • Print a copy of your students schedule, or have it up on your phone from the portal
  • Please leave your students at home if possible due to space
  • Park in the shuttle parking - Austin Oaks Church 4220 Monterey Oaks Blvd, Austin, TX 78749

A Message from the nurse

Hello Parents,

All medications require a signed medical permission form along with the parent signing the permission form. Only epipens, inhalers, and diabetic meds/supplies can be carried with a valid order, all other medications must be kept in the nurses office. Immunizations will be worked on over the next few weeks, and we will let you know if your student needs any vaccinations. There is a 30 day grace period for any necessary shots before the student cannot attend class. Health screenings to include vision/hearing/scoliosis will be conducted throughout the year. Please email alana.bejarano@austinisd.org if you do not want your student screened. Per Texas law, you must provide the screenings to the school from your pediatrician should you not want them screened on campus. Please feel free to stop by the nurses office for any questions.

Thank you,
Alana Bejarano RN

Attendance Note

You can also find this form on our website under hotlinks in the bottom left corner on the main page year round.

House Bill 114

The Austin ISD Student Success Guide (Student Code of Conduct) is now available on the Austin ISD District website for students, parents, and guardians to review. One important legislative update is that ALL e-cigarettes (THC and Tobacco) are prohibited. House Bill 114 requires a student to be placed in the District Alternative Education Program (DAEP) if the student possesses, uses, is under the influence, sells, gives, or delivers marijuana, THC, or an e-cigarette (new) while on campus, within 300 feet of school property, or at a school-related event. Under Austin ISD guidelines, this is a 20-day DAEP placement. Parents and guardians are strongly urged to talk to their students about this new policy and review the Student Success Guide to help keep our schools safe for students and staff. For resources to use when talking with your student about the harmful effects of e-cigarettes visit https://e-cigarettes.surgeongeneral.gov/.
