Kona Ice Reward Party
Book Tasting (Welcome to Starbooks Cafe)
Mrs. Raines, Mrs. Jones, and Mrs. Adams invited me to their 3/4 Grade Split Book Tasting. The room was filled with calming music, students reading, and a menu that I was able to choose from. The atmosphere was amazing, and the students were so engaged! I didn't want to leave! :)
Parent Teacher Conferences
On Friday, October 17th, Blue River Valley will hold Parent-Teacher Conferences. Please ensure you have scheduled a time to meet with your child's teacher in person or a phone call to discuss your child's progress so far this year. Our goal is to meet with every student's family. Report cards will be handed out during the conferences.
There will be a Food Truck (Danger Dog) parked between the elementary and high school buildings during lunch time for anyone who would like to purchase lunch on Friday. Stop by on your way to or from conferences.
We are looking forward to seeing everyone! Thank you for teaming with us to make this a great year!
Students will have an asynchronous eLearning day on Friday, October 17th. All assignments will be posted on Canvas by 9:00 am and are due by the following day. Teachers will be available via email and will answer when not meeting with parents.
Be sure to visit our Scholastic Book Fair on Friday anytime from 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM. It is located in the elementary media center.
ILEARN
Students in Grades 3-6 took ILEARN Checkpoint #1 in Math on Tuesday and in ELA today. These are taken as part of the requirements from the state. The ILEARN test consists of three checkpoints given throughout the year with a summative test in April/May.
Spell Bowl Team
A Message from Mrs. Stewart
Is your child in 4th, 5th, or 6th grade and interested in being on the Spell Bowl Team? Practice will be every Wednesday after school, ending at 4:15PM. We will hold two practice meets in preparation for the Regional competition, which will take place on November 17th.
Participation is open to all students in grades 4, 5, and 6. During the competition, students will write the words on paper - there is no requirement to spell aloud in front of an audience. I need their signed permission slip by Monday, October 20th.
A message from Coach Brennen Bales
Attention 3rd - 6th Grade Girls' Basketball Players.
We have the opportunity to play in a fall basketball league being held at Wes-Del High School. There was some misinformation on the original flyer, as we were given the incorrect dates.
The correct dates for this FREE league are:
October 18th & 25th, November 1st, 8th, & 15th, and December 6th & 13th. Notice that these are on Saturdays.
We plan to form two teams:
A 3rd & 4th grade team
A 5th & 6th grade team
We understand that our Junior Vikings League will overlap on November 1st, 8th, and 15th, but we will be adjusting game times so that our girls can participate in both leagues.
If you’re interested in having your daughter play, please contact me via call/text/email as soon as possible.
We’re excited to offer this opportunity and look forward to a great experience for our young athletes!

Please help us collect plastic bottle caps so that we can turn them into a bench for our bus drivers. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Gregory at robin.gregory@brv.k12.in.us .
Art Club
Field Trips
Many teachers have started scheduling their class field trips. If you are planning to attend a trip with your child this year, you will need to make sure you have a background check on file. They are good for one year. If you have any questions or need to see if your background check is still current, please email kim.jarvis@brv.k12.in.us and she can assist you.
You will want to do this as soon as possible to make sure there is enough time to get this completed. This process can take up to three weeks to get completed.
Attendance
Making sure your student is at school every day—and for the full day—is essential for their learning and success. Recently, the State of Indiana has updated attendance guidelines to be more strict, and we need your support in helping us meet these expectations. Please ensure your student is present each day. If they must miss school for a doctor’s appointment or another valid reason, be sure to provide documentation and turn it in to the office.
BRV App & Rooms
Blue River Valley Schools is excited to have ONE form of communication through the BRV app. We know that there have been issues and are working hard to solve them. If you are struggling as a parent to get the app downloaded, please fill out this Google Form and someone will work to resolve the issue within 24-48 hours. Thank you for your patience!
Please make sure you are using an up-to-date app to make sure you are receiving communication.

Information for the 2025-2026 School Year
Latchkey (New Castle Transportation Route )- Castle Kids at Memorial Wesleyan Church
- The Latchkey bus route will continue for the 2025-2026 school year. The bus will pick up students at approximately 7:20 am. The morning pick-up on 'Late Start Wednesdays' will occur around 8:00 am. After-school drop-off will also occur in the church parking lot.
If you have any questions, please contact the office.
Late Start Wednesdays - We will continue 'Late Start Wednesdays' for the 2025-2026 school year. On Wednesdays, school will begin at 8:30 am in both buildings. This means that the buses will run 30 minutes later on Wednesday mornings. We will release at our normally scheduled time of 2:55 pm. In the event of a 2-hour delay on a Wednesday, 'Late Start Wednesday' will be cancelled. If you have any questions about “Late Start Wednesday,” please reach out to Mrs. Walradth.
Early Drop-OFF - Students who do not ride the bus may be dropped off at 7:45 a.m. on Wednesdays for a morning latchkey program. At this time, there is no cost to this one-day morning latch key option.
Attendance - Please make sure that if your child will not be at school that you call the school and let us know their name and reason for their absence. As a reminder, we are following the Attendance Policy outlined in our Student Handbook this year.
Dismissal - Students are not allowed to ride home on the bus with a friend. All students will follow their normal dismissal plans unless the office has been notified. Please notify the office by 2:00 pm if changes are needed.
Notes - If your child has transportation plans that rotate or are not consistent each day, please send a note to your child's teacher weekly, so they know the schedule and the correct mode of transportation for each day of the week. (Many of our students can get stressed out trying to remember what they are supposed to do at the end of the day. A note that the teacher and office can reference is a way that we can reduce their stress.) Thank you for your help with this! Your child's safety is our top priority!
Have a wonderful day!
