Mac El Weekly News
Week of January 26, 2024
From the Principal
The weather this week has been quite unpredictable, with ice, rain, and fog making for challenging schedules. Despite all these challenges, both students and staff have shown great resilience and flexibility. It's worth noting that the students have successfully completed their i-Ready Diagnostic tests, which will help us assess their progress and provide targeted interventions to support their learning. Next week, reports will be sent home to update parents on their child's progress.
IREAD Testing
Teachers are currently preparing for the upcoming IREAD test. This test will be given to all 2nd and 3rd-grade students, except those who have already passed it in 2nd grade. Please refer to the schedule provided below, as students will not be permitted to enter or leave during the testing period. It is recommended to schedule any appointments around their testing time. This test is critical, and we want to ensure that students have the best possible chance to succeed.
High Ability Identification
All second-grade students will be administered the CogAT (Cognitive Abilities Test) as the initial screener in the High Ability identification process. If your child is in 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade, not already identified as High Ability, and you would like them to be screened, please email Mrs. Tidd at tidds@maconaquah.k12.in.us for further information by January 29.
If you have questions regarding high ability, the High Ability Program Description is available on the Maconaquah website under parent resources.
🌨️ Weather-Related Updates 🌨️
Weather Aware
Please make sure your child is well-prepared for the weather as it changes quickly. Some students are still coming to school with just a sweatshirt, but it is predicted to get bitterly cold next week. Regardless of whether they are riding a bus or walking, they should wear a jacket to keep themselves warm and have it in emergency situations. The nurse and guidance office have limited amounts of hats, gloves, coats, etc. available, so it is important that your child brings their own. If you need assistance with a coat or other resources for your child, please contact Mrs. Snyder, Mrs. Adams (guidance), or Mrs. Ladouceur (Nurse) and they can put you in touch with additional resources.
Delays and Closings
Please make sure your contact phone number is current in Skyward to receive phone calls about delays and closings. Announcements are also pushed through the Maconaquah Schools App, accessible in your phone app store.
Chrome Books
Chromebooks and chargers are being sent home daily until further notice. This is being done as a precaution should we have weather-related virtual days. Please keep the Chrome Book in a safe place and make sure students bring them back each day. These are school-owned devices and are intended for school use only. Please do not allow siblings or other people to use their Chromebooks.
Should we have a virtual learning day, please refer to the link below and on our website for the Virtual Instruction Learning Plan. Your child's teacher has reviewed this, and students should know how to access Google Meet. Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have questions.
