Wilderness First Aid & CPR Certified! Wilderness First Aid & CPR Certified!

During the 2nd quarter of the school year, 25 students took part in a new ELO opportunity here at Lesher. As a certified Wilderness First Aid Instructor, I introduced our students to the world of wilderness medicine. This is typically an intensive 16 hour course when I teach it outside of school. For this experience, we took advantage of the ELO time to attack the curriculum. When it was all said and done, I had eight brave students who were willing to take a full day with me to finish up the course and earn their certifications for Wilderness First Aid and CPR. The Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course is designed for the outdoor enthusiast, trip leader, raft guide, or land agency field staff who want more than what an urban first aid course provides. The WFA is a great introduction to wilderness medicine and basic life support skills. This training focuses on prevention, assessment, and treatment of environmental illnesses, recognizing and stabilizing life threats caused by trauma, and calling for a rescue in the event of a wilderness emergency.

Traffic Safety Reminders! Traffic Safety Reminders!

Traffic Safety Reminder from Officer Sarah Klich, School Resource Officer

To help keep our students safe, please review and follow these important traffic reminders around Lesher Middle School:

  • Stover & Prospect Intersection

    • It is illegal to turn left or right when the crosswalk red light is on.

    • When turning left onto Stover from eastbound Prospect, do not turn in front of oncoming traffic or try to “beat” the light.

  • U-Turns

    • Please avoid making U-turns in front of the school. With so many students biking, there have been several close calls.

  • Bike Lane Safety

    • The bike lane is not a driving lane and should not be used to go around stopped traffic.

  • Handicap Parking

    • The two handicap spaces in front of the school are for permitted handicap parking only.

    • These spaces are not loading zones.

    • Please do not park in or block these spaces unless you have a visible handicap placard.

  • Bus Circle

    • Please do not pull into the front bus circle during morning or afternoon hours, as this blocks school buses and creates unsafe situations.

  • Enforcement

    • The School Resource Officer is partnering with the traffic unit to begin enforcement of these issues.

Keeping our school zone safe takes all of us. Thank you for doing your part to protect our students and follow traffic laws!

PSD Engagement Norms PSD Engagement Norms

In an effort to foster a culture of mutual respect, effective communication, and quality customer service, PSD has created a set of norms for staff, family/guardian, and community engagement. These norms aim to set a positive tone for interactions between staff and parents and community members, whether they happen in person, over the phone, or in writing.

The norms will be posted in all PSD schools and include expectations that:

  • Calls or emails that are not emergencies will be acknowledged within three school days.
  • Appointments between the parties involved will be established as a norm for addressing concerns or discussing important matters through direct communication.
  • Appointments will take place as soon as reasonably possible. Adequate time is needed for preparation and research before an appointment.
  • Communication will focus on collaboration and understanding – respectful language and non-confrontational behavior from all parties are expected.
  • Boundaries between personal and professional life will be maintained, and sensitive matters will not be addressed in community settings.

It’s important for everyone in our schools and in our communities to feel welcome and engage in mutual respect to best serve students.
