A Message from the Principal
Engaging Students in Learning at Coosa Elementary
At Coosa Elementary, student engagement is at the heart of everything we do. We strive to create learning experiences that are meaningful, interactive, and empowering so that every student is actively involved in their own growth.
Through our participation in the Measurable Results Assessment (MRA), we gather feedback from students, staff, and families to better understand how well we are supporting leadership, culture, and academics. This process helps us celebrate what’s working and identify areas for continued growth.
A key focus of the MRA is how schools engage students in their learning—ensuring that students are not only active participants but also leaders in the learning process. At Coosa, we intentionally design learning experiences that build confidence, independence, and a love for learning.
Some of the ways we engage students in learning include:
-
Providing student-led opportunities, such as leadership roles, classroom responsibilities, and student-led conferences, where students take an active role in sharing their progress and goals.
-
Using engaging, standards-based instruction that includes hands-on learning, collaboration, and opportunities for students to apply their thinking in meaningful ways.
-
Supporting students in setting and tracking goals, helping them take ownership of their growth and celebrate progress.
-
Empowering students through voice and choice, allowing them to make decisions about their learning, participate in clubs and enrichment opportunities, and explore their interests.
-
Incorporating Leader in Me practices and the 7 Habits, which help students develop the skills needed to lead their own learning with confidence and purpose.
These practices help ensure that our students are not just learning—they are actively engaged, motivated, and equipped to succeed.
Next week, we will highlight how we include families in making decisions that impact your child’s learning experience and school success.
Thank you for partnering with us to support engaged, empowered learners at Coosa Elementary! 🐾
