Scott Middle School's Motto- "We Enter to Learn and Leave to Achieve"
What Has Been Happening in Mr. Platt's Classroom?
In our recent 7th grade skills-based Health classes, we put an emphasis on our Scott ROCKS philosophy of showing respect, ownership, courage, kindness and safety. We reviewed the meaning behind and covered several ways to demonstrate these positive behaviors in various parts of the building through a game of Family Feud! There has also been a focus on decision making and peer pressure. We discussed who our peers are, how they can affect our decision making, spoken and unspoken peer pressure, and went over some ways that we could avoid occurrences in which it is present.
7th graders also just completed their 2nd of 4 lessons of the CATCH My Breath program, presented by a research-based company called Compass Mark. CATCH My Breath is an evidence-based program that provides youth with the skills to resist peer pressure and media influences to vape.
6th grade health classes are also in the middle of their own Compass Mark program, called Positive Action. This program promotes social-emotional and character skills, resulting in healthy childhood development. Positive Action is based on the intuitive philosophy that we feel good about ourselves when we do positive actions.
In addition to Positive Action, we have focused on the wellness triangle that includes physical, mental/emotional, and social health. Our emphasis on the ROCKS philosophy was reviewed through discussion and making connections with character-driven commercials from www.passiton.com. There was also a focus in decision making with the 6th grade classes, as well.
In the near future, both grade levels will be focusing on different aspects of nutrition and weight management.

Scott Students Competed at the County Science Fair on Tuesday, March 11th
Congratulations to Jacob Morales, Mia Hand and Callen Boyer who represented Scott Middle School at the Chester County Science Research Competition on Tuesday, March 11th. They did a wonderful job and we are extremely proud of them.
Food and Drinks in the Morning
We have noticed an uptick in students entering the building in the morning with coffee drinks, shakes and uneaten breakfast. We have been directing them to finish what they have outside or head to the office to finish before starting their day. Please remember that students have the opportunity grab a school breakfast upon entering the building. Also, only water should be carried in water bottles throughout the building. Please do not send in coffee, juice or smoothies. When they spill, it makes a terrible sticky mess. We appreciate your support.
