Dear Beacon Hill Middle School Families,

As the hallways grow quiet and we prepare to head into our winter break, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to our entire school community. This school year has already been filled with remarkable growth, academic achievements, and the kind of vibrant "Bulldog” spirit that makes Beacon Hill such a special place to learn. Watching our students tackle new challenges, engage in thoughtful classroom discussions, and support one another in the halls remains the highlight of my day.

Winter break represents a vital opportunity for our students (and our dedicated staff!) to step away from the rigors of the school day. I encourage you to use this time to truly disconnect from the daily routine and the semester's pressures. Whether your plans involve traveling to see family or simply enjoying the peace of a "staycation" here in our community, I hope these days are filled with warmth, laughter, and much-needed rest. Taking the time to recharge is essential for our students' social and emotional well-being, ensuring they can return to us with the focus and energy they need to finish the year strong.

Please stay safe, enjoy the company of your loved ones, and we look forward to welcoming every one of our students back to campus with a smile and a renewed sense of purpose.

Sincerely,

Alexis Glenn

Principal

Sandy Hook Promise

To ensure our schools remain safe, we are launching the Say Something Anonymous Reporting System (ARS), a program by the nonprofit Sandy Hook Promise.

What is Say Something ARS?

This initiative trains students and staff to recognize warning signs of potential threats—on social media or in person—and empowers them to "say something" to a trusted adult or via our anonymous platform.

Key Features

  • Recognize & Act: Learn to identify at-risk behaviors and take immediate action.

  • 24/7 Reporting: Students can report concerns anytime via the mobile app, website, or hotline.

  • Proven Safety: This program is used nationwide to prevent violence, suicide, and bullying.

Empowering Our Students

Students are often the first to see when a peer is struggling. By providing these tools, we empower them to protect one another and foster a safer, more supportive community.

Thank you for your partnership in keeping our schools safe.

Advancing Excellence: High School Physical Science Coming to 8th Grade

We are proud to announce an update to our science department for the 2026-2027 school year. To provide our students with a competitive edge and a head start on their graduation requirements, we will begin offering High School Physical Science to all 8th graders.

Choosing the Right Curriculum

To ensure our students are supported in this accelerated coursework, our science faculty has spent the last few months vetting high-quality instructional resources. After evaluation, the team has recommended the adoption of Savvas: Concepts in High School Physical Science. This resource was selected for its:

  • Alignment with state standards

  • Labs that support conceptual understanding of challenging scientific concepts

  • Strong focus on foundational chemistry and physics concepts.

We Value Your Input

Community partnership is a cornerstone of our curriculum adoption process. We invite parents, guardians, and community members to visit the school to preview the materials and share their perspectives.

  • Dates: February 23 – March 6

  • Location: School Media Center

  • Process: Please check in at the front office to receive a visitor badge; staff will then direct you to the review station in the media center.

Your feedback ensures that we select tools that best serve our students and families. We look forward to seeing you there!

Shaping the Future of BHMS: Your Feedback in Action GaDOE School Climate Survey

At Beacon Hill Middle School, our mission is to ensure every student feels Seen, Supported, and Successful. To achieve this, we rely on a strong partnership with our families. We invite you to participate in the annual GaDOE School Climate Survey, an anonymous statewide tool that measures perceptions of school safety, relationships, and our overall learning environment.

Your feedback is more than just data; we use it to revise and create our BHMS Action Plan (School 90 Day Plan). These insights allow our School Leadership Team to monitor progress and implement targeted strategies that directly enhance your child's daily experience. Please take 10–15 minutes to share your perspective and help us continue to elevate the standard of excellence at BHMS.

High School Credit for Middle Schoolers (Carnegie Units)

Is your student currently enrolled in a high school-level course at Beacon Hill (World Language I, World Language II, Enhanced Algebra, Enhanced Lit/Comp)? If they earn a 70 or above, they will automatically receive high school graduation credit. While these credits count toward graduation, they do not impact your student's high school GPA or HOPE Scholarship eligibility.

Should You Decline Credit?

It is strongly recommended that parents decline credit if a student earns below an 80 in the course. This allows the student to retake the course in high school to build a stronger foundation without penalty.

How to Opt-Out

If you wish to decline credit, you must complete the Course Credit Refusal form in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal by Thursday, February 26.

  1. Login: Access the Parent Portal and select your middle school student.

  2. Locate Document: Click on Documents in the menu and select Course Credit Refusal.

  3. Submit: Choose "I do NOT want this credit" for the specific course, sign electronically, and click submit.

Note: If no form is submitted, credit will be awarded automatically. Once submitted, this decision is final.

For technical support, please contact Robyn Tibbetts

6th Grade Math Celebrates Black History Month 6th Grade Math Celebrates Black History Month

This week, the 6th-grade math team transformed their classrooms into hubs of inspiration to celebrate Black History Month by hosting African American guest speakers. Speakers helped connect curriculum to the real world. To bridge the gap between textbook equations and future careers, the Math Department hosted a series of guest speakers—prominent professionals of color who use mathematics every day to shape our world.

Our students had the privilege of engaging with an Engineer, an Architect, a Funeral Home Director, and a specialist from the CDC. The goal of this initiative was to show students that the concepts they are mastering today—from ratios to geometry—are the building blocks of professional success. Our guests highlighted several key themes. Seeing these professionals in high-level STEM and business roles empowered our students to envision their own future contributions to these fields. Speakers emphasized that middle school math isn't just a requirement; it’s the "mental gym" that builds the problem-solving skills needed for any high-level career. Thank you 6th Grade math for making these connections for our students!

BHMS Girls Basketball Are County Runners-Up! BHMS Girls Basketball Are County Runners-Up!

On Saturday, the Bulldogs took the court at Miller Grove HS in front of a packed gymnasium for the DeKalb County Championship. Beacon Hill faced undefeated Champion MS in a rematch from earlier in the season. For four quarters, both teams battled back and forth with smothering defense and hard-to-come-by baskets. In the end, the Bulldogs came up just short of victory. Our County Runners-Up end the season with a 14-2 record and received a well-deserved standing ovation from the many Bulldog fans who made the trip to support the team. Great job to all of our Bulldogs, and thank you to Coach Hood, Coach Edwards, and Coach Lindsay for guiding our students through an unforgettable season!
