We’ve had a number of public school parents inquire about paying for summer school. NC State Statute 115C prevents parents of public school students from paying out-of-pocket for any public school instruction, including NCVPS summer courses. Public schools are responsible for covering the cost of summer enrollments. Summer enrollments count in your new 2026-2027 state allotment.
Live, Certified Instruction for Middle Schools Continues
In-Real Time (IRT) is the synchronous class delivery program for North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS). The program model is a whole-class, middle school course, with required synchronous sessions with a NCVPS teacher. The “In Real Time” (IRT) pilot for 8th-grade core instruction began in Fall 2023 with selected schools. Course offerings were in 8th Grade ELA, Math, Social Studies, and Science. In 2024-2025, the course offerings were expanded to the 7th grade and NC Math 1 (Middle/High).
For the 2026-2027 academic year, course offerings will include 7th and 8th grade Science, Math, and ELA, as well as NC Math 1 (Middle/High). This program is designed to support instruction by providing a certified NCVPS teacher to work alongside a substitute or beginning teacher to provide quality instruction for students. For more information about the program, please complete this interest form. Please share with your stakeholders.
We will be hosting an informational webinar on July 30th at 11 a.m. To attend, please register for the event here:

Course Spotlight: Movement and Screendance
Movement and Screendance is a beginning-level art course designed to teach the basics of physical movement and filming techniques for capturing dance for digital platforms, through the four Arts Standards processes of Connect, Create, Present, and Respond.
The course will explore the history and current applications of dance for screen and cover basic dance elements of Body, Space, Time, and Effort applicable to any dance form, including but not limited to hip-hop, modern, jazz, ballet, and cultural styles. Camera angles and editing techniques will be learned as students work independently to create and film themselves and/or others in short movement sequences. Students will analyze and evaluate their own work and their peers' work. This course is specifically designed to meet the Arts Graduation requirement and is perfect for both those with previous dance training and students with little or no prior dance experience who enjoy performing short dances on various digital platforms.

NCVPS Super Student
Meet Super Student Samuel G! Samuel writes,“Taking an online course has challenged me to manage my time properly and gives me a sense of independence because everything from finishing assignments to using the given resources was up to me. Taking an online course also allows me to understand my own way of learning which will allow me to better understand material. The online course I took also helped me realize that I won’t always grasp the concept on the first try. This course has also helped me procrastinate less than I would have.” – Samuel G.

Stakeholder Insights and Feedback
District and Stakeholder Survey
Please complete our District and School Stakeholder Survey. The survey will close on June 30, 2026.
This survey is intended to provide feedback from district and school stakeholders related to the North Carolina Virtual Public School. We will use your input to improve NCVPS processes, communication efforts, and the planning of courses and programs as we strive to serve schools and districts.
This survey will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. Please submit your survey responses by June 30. Thank you for participating and helping us build the future!
Summer Contact Information Needed
Districts and schools registering students for summer classes need to complete our NCVPS Summer 2026 ELA Contact Information form.
NCVPS needs the contact information for each school that registers students for Summer 2026 classes. Students enrolled in summer classes will also need to know who to contact at the school level. Students can drop through our 5th day of class, but they need to know who to contact at the school or district level so they can be dropped. Districts may elect to have just one contact for the entire district over the summer.
Presently, you may not have any students enrolled in NCVPS summer courses, but if your school does enroll students in the coming weeks for Summer 2026, we will need this information.
If districts have their school-level ELA contact information in an Excel document, they can copy and paste that into the contact box using the link above.
Learn more about our summer program on our Summer School with NCVPS page.
