Pride Preview Vol. 5
Q1 Week 5 Sept 8-12

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Thank you for making our Grandparents’ Day on Friday such a wonderful success! This week, I’ll be sharing resources connected to how we track student learning at the individual level. As we reflect on our progress, remember that the distance from an 88 to an A is just as significant as the work it has taken to bring our campus this far. Let’s stay focused and keep the MAIN THING, the MAIN THING!
🌟 Pride Member of the Week: Ms. Paredes 🌟
We are proud to recognize Ms. Paredes as our Pride Member of the Week and to celebrate her achievement as our newest Distinguished Teacher!
She fulfilled all requirements of the Distinguished Teacher Review, earning one of the highest honors in our profession. On campus, she serves as our LPAC Chair and PK4 Content Lead, played an important role in our school musical this past spring, and will soon be leading our expanded garden efforts.
Ms. Paredes embodies excellence and leadership in every role she takes on, and we are honored to celebrate her this week.

📞 Introducing Lipscomb Roar Calls
I’m excited to launch a new way to celebrate our students and families—Lipscomb Roar Calls! Each week, I’ll be making quick, positive phone calls home to recognize students who are showing growth, effort, and the values of our Pride. These calls are a chance to spread good news, strengthen family connections, and keep our community roaring with positivity. 🦁
Thank you for helping me identify students whose hard work and character deserve a call home—I can’t wait to share these moments with families!
Operational Reminders:
RECESS:
Recess is an important time for students to recharge and play safely.
Please remember:
-
Teachers should be actively monitoring students at all times — not on phones.
-
Move around the area to ensure strong visibility and supervision.
-
Ensure students have plenty of water, especially on hot days, so everyone stays safe and healthy.
HALLWAYS:
Only one student should be out of your classroom at a time.
All students must have a hall pass when in the hallway.
To maximize instructional time, limit individual bathroom breaks and adhere to the classwide break times outlined in the master schedule.
Let’s work together to keep our hallways safe, orderly, and focused on learning.
BREAKFAST FORMS
✨ Friendly reminder, teachers: please complete the breakfast form each morning by marking all present students and making sure they pick up their breakfast.

Learning Checks - New District Information
Learning Checks (LC) are unit assessments that are available to be administered in Reading Language Arts (RLA), Math, and Dual Language/ESL classrooms. They are aligned with district curriculum as well as with the content and format of Standard Mastery Checks (SMC) and STAAR.
LCs are designed to gather formative data and allow students to show their learning over the course of recently taught standards within the unit or module.
LCs for RLA and Math will be administered for students in grades 3-8. The RLA/DL Bilingual Learning Checks will be administered for students in grades 3-5 DL.
LC Blueprints will be made available via Curriculum Central at the beginning of the quarter.
Suggested assessment dates will be included within the Instructional Planning Calendars (IPCs).
LCs will be available via All in Learning (AiL). During the suggested week of the assessments, a direct link will be available on the IPCs.
Please refer to the FAQ document for information about the Bilingual Learning Checks.
Testing windows can be found on this Assessment Calendar.
Student Activities Sponsors/Coaches Needed!
We’re looking for teachers to step up and lead our UIL student activities this year! These are stipend-paying opportunities that not only support our students’ growth but also strengthen our campus culture. Student clubs and extracurriculars are where kids discover their passions, build confidence, and develop skills that last a lifetime. By sponsoring a UIL event, you’ll play a key role in giving our students opportunities to shine beyond the classroom and showcase the Pride across Dallas ISD.
Please reach out to Ms. Timms, our Campus Activities Coordinator for questions!

📘 Book Study at a Glance - Hacking Questions: 11 Answers That Create a Culture of Inquiry in Your Classroom by Connie Hamilton
Purpose of the Book
Connie Hamilton’s Hacking Questions is part of the Hack Learning series and is written for teachers who want to move beyond surface-level questioning and cultivate deeper student thinking, engagement, and ownership of learning. The book emphasizes that questioning is not just about checking for understanding but about fostering a culture of curiosity and critical thinking.
Big Idea
The way teachers ask questions—and what they do with student responses—shapes the learning culture of the classroom. Instead of questions being “gotcha” moments or ways to reward the fastest hand-raiser, Hamilton argues that questions should be tools that invite all students into dialogue and inquiry.
Over the next few weeks, we will unpack the hacks and learn how we can create a culture of inquiry in our classrooms!

Clinic's Corner
My daily medical procedure in the TC classroom has changed from 1:50 PM to 2:35 PM to 12:50 PM to 1:35 PM. This will give me adequate time to see students in the clinic towards the end of the day.
For our records, please always enter a Google e-pass for any student requiring clinic services. While I am in the TC classroom, please notify the office of any urgent or emergency situations.
I will evaluate any other students when I return to the clinic.
Sincerely,
Nurse Wilcox
