Build My Future: Showcase for Careers in the Skilled Trades

Here at the Chelsea Center, we are all about helping students find what lights them up inside! Every month, we offer group job shadow trips–open to all WGHS students–to provide small “toe-dips” into various careers highlighted within the WG Pathways to Self-Discovery initiative.

On October 1, students are invited to join us from 8:25 - 2:30 for a trip to Build My Future, an immersive and interactive event that provides students with hands-on opportunities to explore careers in the construction industry. This exciting showcase is designed to inspire and educate the next generation about the diverse and rewarding paths available in construction and other trades.

The Chelsea Center will sponsor the cost to bring 45 WGHS students to this event wherein they will experience hands-on exhibits and virtual reality simulations in architecture, construction, bricklaying, heavy equipment operating, tile laying, welding, plumbing, HVAC and more. In addition to the hands-on experiences, students will receive information on salary and benefit trajectories in various trade fields, actively network with business hiring representatives, and will be led to reflect on what next steps might be possible to further their sparks of interest.

This opportunity is free and includes transportation. LUNCH PROVIDED! Students will be given an event t-shirt that they are required to wear and a pair of safety glasses, and MUST wear closed toe shoes or they will not be able to participate in several activities. Students will earn A+ job shadow hours during this experience.

Interested students should register this week on GivePulse, or see us in the Chelsea Center room 200 for assistance. The Chelsea Center will arrange for their excused absence for this trip.

Reminder: We can help students who are pursuing their A+ hours find connections to service learning that include the mentorship or job shadowing components the A+ program requires. Have your students stop by to talk with us, or independently explore their GivePulse account opportunity listings at wgsd.givepulse.com.

The Chelsea Center wants to spark joy and self-discovery for all WGHS students! The Chelsea Center wants to spark joy and self-discovery for all WGHS students!
