An Update from Jason
Hello All,
I hope you are well, had a lovely weekend, and all is good. Thank you for your continued work this week in Grade-level EST meetings to identify students who need a reoccurring Solon block schedule and work towards finding ways for extra support.
This week, MHS has the Clothing swap and sustainable fashion show! It's always a great learning moment. The phantom heart care person will display love for MHS and Montpelier. It's the last week of some basketball games before the playoffs begin, and the Montpelier Flood Commission meeting will be at MHS on Thursday. There is always a lot happening.
With semester two starting on January 29th, we have two weeks until we are in the middle of quarter 3. Be sure to reach out to caregivers and students by February 23rd, right before the break, if a student struggles in your class, and we can connect in the grade level team. The week of April 5th Quarter 3 progress reports will be mailed home as a mid semester two update. As always please connect if you have questions.
I hope you have a wonderful new week, and thank you for your continued efforts in working with students and each other and moving our community forward.
Have a great new week and be well.
Sincerely,
Jason
Tell me what to do!" the student says. Epictetus corrects him, "It would be better to say, 'Make my mind adaptable to any circumstances.'

Reminders:
- If you have a student attending your SB who was not signed up with you, PLEASE assign them to your SB immediately so that the attendance can be accurate.
And, if you have a TA student called back to a different teacher, please advise that student where to go. The BIPOC space in room 221 is requesting clothing donations for a screen printing project with clothing to raise funds for the space. We are asking for: T-shirts, long sleeve shirts, Hoodies.
A request from a MHS Caregiver- when sending emails to parents to use the BCC field instead of putting them all in the TO field where they're visible.
Club Action needs to raise thousands of dollars before May to pay the BIPOC speakers and performers and to cover other costs. This year, the club is leaning into bake sales and will be selling baked goods at the Berlin Shaws on Sunday, Feb. 18. If you are able to donate baked goods, we would be so grateful! You can sign up on this spreadsheet.
PD Opportunity-
Vermont-NEA is sponsoring a full-day workshop with Afrika Afeni Mills, author of "Open Windows, Open Minds: Developing Antiracist, Pro-human Students" on Thursday, April 4th at The Delta in South Burlington. Afrika was a long-time educator in the Boston area before her blogpost, "A Letter to White Teachers of My Black Children" went viral. Her first book, "Open Window, Open Minds" is an excellent book for all educators, but most importantly, educators in predominantly white areas. You can hear her TedTalk, "4 Ways to Have Healthy Conversations About Race" here.

What is one action step you can commit to this week to help students have a sense of belonging that you took away from our Faculty meeting?
How will you know if by the end of the week if you were committed?

I was doing a deep dive into an email and found this resource if anyone is interested about Gratitude and Prompts- 21 day tracker. Something I might try and something we might want to start in TA's.
Take a look.
