Welcome to the kindergarten registration Smore Page! If this is your first child coming through our school, welcome to the Byram Lakes family! If you are a returning parent, welcome back!

The following are required for your child to be admitted into our kindergarten program:

1. Your child MUST be five (5) years old on or before October 1st of his/her kindergarten entry year.
2. Proof of a current physical examination by family physician (within the last year) must be completed on state-mandated, required form and be presented before your child may start school. (Not required at time of registration)
3. All current immunization records must be included in the registration. ALL IMMUNIZATIONS MUST BE COMPLETED AND PROVIDED TO THE SCHOOL PRIOR TO THE START OF THE SCHOOL YEAR. According to NJ State Law 5141.3, it is mandatory for ALL children to have received current dosages of all mandated immunizations before entering school. Proof of having the following immunizations must be provided to the school: Diphtheria Pertusis Tetanus (DPT); Polio Vaccine; Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR); Hepatitis B; and Varicella. (If there are medical or religious reasons for not having immunizations, this must be presented in writing from your personal physician for medical reasons, or yourself for religious reasons).
4. Legal birth certificate, with raised seal
5. Proof of residency: Current tax bill, recent rental agreement, copy of sales agreement stating the date your family permanently occupied house/apartment, or deed.

The registration process has been adjusted to accommodate for the regulations that have been put into place due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Due to the fact that we are not allowing visitors into the building at this time, the registration process will be completed totally online. This Smore will outline the registration process, including all of the necessary steps and documents that need to be completed.

Our kindergarten registration process is comprised of four steps, each of which will be explained below.

In this step of the registration process, a parent and/or guardian must complete the online registration forms and upload all required documents into the document uploader. A few things to keep in mind:

1. If you are registering multiple children, please add all of their names while in the "Register Students" tab in the registration portal.
2. All students MUST have at least two (2) emergency contacts included in their file. These contacts will be added within the "Contact & Addresses" tab. These individuals cannot be the same people listed as "Guardian 1" or "Guardian 2" and should be people who will be available in case of an emergency at school. Please note, that all efforts will be made to contact parents/guardians first. (Only a valid phone number is required for emergency contacts. No addresses are needed)

3. A registration will not be considered complete until all information has been entered AND all required documentation is submitted for review.

4. Once all information is submitted, please click on the calendar link below to schedule a Google Meet with Mrs. Scholl, our school nurse, and one of our main office secretaries.

Parent orientation provides parents with important information about our kindergarten program and gives them a sneak peek into a typical day of a kindergarten student at Byram Lakes.

The typical spring into kindergarten would take place during the month of May and would require you to bring your incoming kindergarten student(s) to the school to participate in a variety of activities. The purpose of this event is to allow the teachers to get to know the new students entering the school and for the new kindergarten student to have their first experience with the kindergarten teachers. Students will participate in a variety of activities ranging from story time to art projects. No formal assessments are given and parents will not be provided with anything at the conclusion of this time.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the process for this step of the registration process is being redeveloped. We are hoping that we will be able to host this event as normal, but in case we are unable to do so, we are preparing alternative activities and formats. Once these details are finalized, you will receive communication with available dates and times.

Student orientation takes place towards the end of the summer, prior to the start of the school year. Parents will bring their child(ren) to school during a scheduled time to meet their assigned teacher for the school year, take a tour of their classroom, and be able to get on a bus to practice buckling their seatbelts. Parents are required to be present during this time to provide the new kindergarten students with a sense of security, knowing that their parents have seen where they will be each day they come to school.

Once a schedule has been created, you will be notified of available dates and times.
