Principal's Monthly Message
Dear View Ridge Families,
As we welcome October, we want to take a moment to celebrate the positive start to the school year. Over the last month, we have been impressed by the way our school community has embraced the year, with students demonstrating enthusiasm, engagement, and a willingness to get involved.
Over the past several weeks, students have been actively establishing the routines, expectations, and habits that support a safe and welcoming school environment. We have enjoyed watching students connect with peers, show care for one another, and grow in both confidence and independence each day.
With these strong foundations now in place, we are digging deeper into learning, encouraging students to challenge themselves, set goals, and embrace new opportunities for growth.
Tomorrow, Thursday, October 8th from 4:30 – 5:30pm is our Curriculum Night. Each classroom will offer the same presentation twice, at 4:30 and 5:00. Families will report to their student’s classroom at the time that works best for their schedule.
The Book Fair will also be open during Curriculum Night and families are welcome to attend both events.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we work together to make this school year successful, engaging, and meaningful for every student. We hope to see you at Curriculum Night!
Sincerely,
Katherine Mayan
Principal, View Ridge Elementary

Did you know...? Why Daily Attendance Matters:
Missed Lessons = Falling Behind: Even one day can mean missing critical instructions and activities, making it harder for your child to catch up.
Impact on Future Success: Consistent attendance is a strong predictor of academic achievement and future opportunities.
Building Resilience: Regular attendance teaches your child the value of perseverance and responsibility—essential skills for success in life.
Stronger Friendships: Daily presence helps your child develop and sustain friendships, which are crucial for emotional and social development.
Healthy Routine: Attending school every day establishes a stable routine, promoting better mental and physical health.
We understand that children get sick. If your child is ill, please let us know using one of the following means to communicate your child’s absence:
- Using the ParentVue App
Emailing vreattendance@everettsd.org
Calling the Main Office at (425) 385-5400
Message line is (425) 385-5405
Some healthy habits that lead to 95-100% attendance include:
- Regular bedtime and morning routines
Scheduling medical and dental appointments after school
Vacations only during school breaks
Go to school– unless truly sick (fever or vomiting)
Reduce screen time and no screens two hours before bed
Have a backup plan – another trusted adult helps get child(ren) to school

A Message from our Counselor
Dear Families,
My name is Breeanna Caudill, and I will be working alongside you as the School Counselor at View Ridge. I get to work with students in many ways, including teaching Child Protection and Bullying Prevention units in classes, student leadership, and supports for social, emotional, behavioral, or attendance needs.
October marks the start of our Bullying Prevention Unit in grades 3rd-5th. Bullying is generally recognized and defined by three primary characteristics. It is unkind or aggressive behavior that:
- Is usually repeated over time
- Occurs in a relationship where there is a power imbalance
- Intends to cause harm or distress and/or has a serious harmful or distressing effect on the target
It is important to distinguish bullying from conflict that happens between peers of equal status. In this unit, students will be learning skills to recognize when bullying is happening, report bullying to a caring adult, refuse to let bullying happen to themselves or others, and be an Upstander who stands up and is part of the solution to bullying. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Email is the quickest way to get in touch with me (bcaudill@everettsd.org) and I'm always happy to schedule a time to talk more or meet in person. I am grateful to be part of your child's journey this year. Wishing you a smooth start to a successful year!

The Birthday Book Club is a fun way to create a lasting memory for your family at View Ridge and endow our library with exciting new books. A green colored BBC paper came home last week. With an online contribution of $20, a book will be carefully selected the month of your child’s birthday (or summer half-birthday). This is a new book is chosen that matches your child’s interests. A bookplate dedicating the book in your child’s honor will be placed inside. The book is presented to the student in class so that he or she can be the first to read it before it is returned to the library collection for all to enjoy. Your child's contribution will also be acknowledged in the monthly school newsletter.
Book Donations The library is always excepting book donations of gently used children’s books. These books are put directly in students’ hands through the library system, teacher’s classroom libraries or used for the Scholastic Book Fair pencil pull. Thank you for the donation consideration.
