Shining Brighter, Growing Stronger! Shining Brighter, Growing Stronger!

Dear Main Street Families,

Next week, we are excited to celebrate Staff Appreciation Week—a special time to recognize the incredible teachers and staff who make our school such a wonderful place for our scholars to learn and grow!

Our staff shows up each day with dedication, care, and a commitment to putting children first. From engaging lessons to supporting the whole child, they truly are “all that and a bag of chips!” We are so grateful for the positive impact they make in our Main Street community.

We invite families to join us in celebrating our staff in simple, meaningful ways throughout the week. A kind note, a drawing, or a message of thanks can go a long way in letting our staff know how much they are appreciated.

📌 Below is a flyer with ideas for how you can celebrate with us throughout the week!

Thank you for partnering with us to uplift and appreciate the amazing individuals who help our scholars shine every day!

Additionally, spring pictures are in! Scholars will receive their photo packages on Monday.

🎉 5th Grade Families

Permission slips for the 5th Grade Dance on May 29th from 6-9 have been distributed. Completed permission slips and payments are due by May 15th. Please note that all payments must be made in cash. We look forward to celebrating our amazing 5th grade scholars!

📊 Attendance Matters – Let’s Finish Strong!

This week, our average daily attendance was 92%, which is strong and shows that many of our scholars are showing up each day ready to learn! However, only 62% of students currently have an overall attendance rate (ADA) above 90%, which is below our goal. Consistent attendance is critical to your child’s academic success—every day of learning truly matters, especially as we approach the end of the school year and prepare for important assessments like the PSSA.

Our goal is to reach 90% Average Daily Attendance (ADA), and we need your partnership to get there. Please make every effort to ensure your child is at school on time, every day, unless they are sick.

Let’s work together to build strong habits and finish the school year strong!

Thank you again for your ongoing support of Main Street Elementary School. Your partnership truly makes a difference in the success of our students each and every day.

Warm regards,
Ms. D. Medley, Principal
Mrs. C. Edmondson, Assistant Principal

Proud to serve our amazing school community! 💛

Our First Chrysalis

Room 8 has an exciting update! 🐛✨ We have our very first chrysalis in our caterpillar cup!

We received our caterpillars in the middle of April and have been observing them every day—reading books, singing songs about metamorphosis (the change from caterpillar to butterfly), and watching videos.

This morning, we noticed one caterpillar crawl to the top of the cup and hang in a “J” shape, which we’ve learned is what they do before forming a chrysalis. We kept checking on it throughout the day, and sometime during nap time… it happened! It built its chrysalis, and we didn’t even catch it in the act!

The children were so excited to discover the change. We took turns observing it closely with our magnifying glass 🔍 and talked about what might happen next.

Next week we will move them to the butterfly enclosure. In about another 10 - 14 days we will have Painted Lady Butterflies! We are continuing our gardening investigation as well.
