As we plan for events to round out the end of the year, remember that any visitors to our building during the school day must present a driver's license or photo ID at the front doors for entry and front desk to sign in. This includes end of year award ceremonies.

We hate having to turn family away from awards ceremonies and other family events during the school day, but student safety is our first priority.

Conferences are scheduled for Monday, October 13th (Bullitt Day afternoon). Your child's teacher is sending home information for you to indicate your preference for a conference. Our teachers will offer in person conferences and phone conferences. We won't be able to fit every conference into this afternoon, so your child's teacher will set up another afternoon after school for meetings.

What does this mean?

A Title I school is a public school receiving federal funding through the Title I, Part A program of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. These funds are allocated to schools with a high percentage of students from low-income families to help raise academic achievement for all students, particularly those at risk of failing to meet state standards.

How does LJES use Title 1 funds?

Title I funds supplement, rather than replace, state and local funding and can be used for various activities, such as hiring more teachers, providing additional instructional supplies, implementing after-school programs, or supporting parental involvement.

Here at LJES, we use our funding to:

  • pay for half of the school librarian
  • hire an additional staff member to work with small groups throughout the school day
  • purchase technology that accompanies our Reading and Math curriculum to enable teachers to plan and meet individual needs
  • pay for staff to receive training to further their teaching skills and knowledge
