Wildcat Weekly- 2/9-2/13

Message from Principal Martinez 🐾
Dear Wildcat Families:
We’re looking forward to another wonderful week of learning and connection! February always brings such a positive energy to campus, and our students continue to show growth—not just academically, but in kindness, responsibility, and resilience.
❤️ Kindness in Action
As we move through this month, classrooms are continuing to focus on friendship skills, empathy, and respectful communication. You can support this at home by talking with your child about what it means to include others, use kind words, and handle small conflicts in positive ways. Even simple questions like “How did you show kindness today?” can spark meaningful conversations.
💗 Valentine’s Day Reminder
If your child’s class is participating in a Valentine exchange, please remember that cards or notes should be inclusive so every student feels valued. Consider non-food treats to help us all be mindful of classroom guidelines and allergy considerations shared by your teacher.
🧥 Lost & Found
Our lost and found is filling up again! If your child is missing a jacket, sweater, or water bottle, please stop by to check. Labeling items with your child’s name makes a big difference.
Thank you for your continued partnership and for the many ways you support our school community. We are grateful for the positivity and care our families bring each day.
Wishing you a great week ahead!
Go Wildcats!

The 2026-2027 school year is scheduled to begin for all students on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. Welcome to PUSD! For more information about our schools and programs, visit our website.
Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and Kindergarten Lottery Information
If a school reaches near capacity for TK or Kindergarten, a lottery may be needed to determine student placement. To be included in the lottery (if required), families must submit their new student enrollment packets between February 2, 2026, and February 13, 2026, by 11:59 p.m. Only students who enroll during this period will be eligible. If a lottery is necessary at our school, families will be notified. The district conducts the lottery for each site.
2026-2027 Transfer Information
The Poway Unified transfer window opens on Sunday, February 1, 2026 at 8 a.m. If you live within the Poway Unified boundaries and want your child to attend a school different than your assigned school, submit your Intradistrict Transfer (IDT) request online through the Transfers page on the PUSD website. Attention 5th Grade Parents 📣
Message from Meadowbrook Middle School
Meadowbrook Middle School is thrilled to invite families of incoming 6th graders and new students to our upcoming MBMS 5th Grade Parent Night on Tuesday, February 10 with gates opening at 5:30PM. This event is designed for parents/guardians only as it will give families an inside look at life at Meadowbrook—academics, electives, student supports, and the Mustang experience as a whole.
We can’t wait to connect with our future Mustang families!
Take-Home Meals for Students Fasting for Ramadan
The USDA approved California’s request to allow students fasting during Ramadan to take school meals home. Between February 23 and March 19, 2026, PUSD students who are fasting for Ramadan may pick up bagged, shelf-stable meals from their school cafeteria during the meal period, and bring them home for later. Parents/guardians must pre-register students for this option. Meals will be limited to foods and beverages that do not require refrigeration, so variety will be limited. Pre-registered students can choose to either eat the regular meals offered at school, or take home bagged meals for later, but not both.
If your child(ren) will be fasting during Ramadan and you would like to register them for take-home meals, please complete the online form by Wednesday, February 11, 2026: Ramadan Meals Registration Form

🎨Thank you, Poway Community Foundation! 🎨
We were honored to welcome Poway Community Foundation Board members Ginger and John Couvrette to our Friday Flag ceremony to celebrate their generous grant supporting the Arts Initiative at Pomerado Elementary. This funding will transform our Spring Art Show and year-round events by allowing us to professionally showcase student artwork with movable gallery display panels. With the generous support of the Poway Community Foundation, Pomerado Elementary is creating a lasting space for creativity to shine and for students to see themselves celebrated as artists.
⚡️ What a Radical Night! ⚡️
A huge THANK YOU to everyone who teased their hair, laced up their high-tops, and joined us for our 80s Theme Dance! It was truly a night to remember, filled with neon lights, iconic hits, and some seriously impressive moves on the dance floor.
It was wonderful to see our community come together to celebrate, and we are so grateful for the energy and "totally tubular" spirit everyone brought to the event.
