Congratulations to our 81 debaters who traveled to the Bronx on Saturday to bring home the citywide championship for MS 50! Special shoutouts to Erick W. who was the top debater in the novice division and Selena V. and Jennifer G. who were the top team in the bilingual division. We are so proud of you and our whole team! Every one of our debaters was essential to our victory and we can't wait to start preparing for the next tournament in May. An extra thanks to all of our parent volunteer judges who helped ensure the tournament ran smoothly and that we could bring all of our students to compete.

We've had a busy few weeks at MS 50! Check out some highlights below and watch the website in the coming days for more pictures of these events. There will be no newsletter next week as we are off for Midwinter Recess.

To celebrate Black History Month and last week's Black Lives Matter Week of Action we had a school-wide assembly on Thursday celebrating the contributions of the past and the advocacy required for a better future. Our showcase featured student poetry, performances by our band and drumline, a skit from our Drama RITs celebrating Black activism in US history and a performance by our 8th Grade Freedom Choir in partnership with the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music.

At Friday's basketball game our MS 50 mascot made its debut! The Warrior Ram helped to hype up the crowd and cheer our team on to victory! The mascot's appearance has raised one key question: who is behind the mask?

To close out College Awareness Month, we had a Homecoming Pep Rally before the basketball game on Friday, January 27! We had a performance by our 8th Grade Band, an incredible routine from our MS 50 Cheer Squad, and skill competitions for the whole school. The afternoon was capped off with a thrilling basketball game!
